Sherman County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign.

Last year, Nebraska recorded 38 alcohol-involved traffic fatalities, accounting for 16.4% of all traffic fatalities in the state. Alcohol was also involved in more than 15% of all crashes statewide. Additionally, law enforcement agencies across Nebraska cited more than 8,000 drivers for DUI in 2025.

Sherman County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from August 21 through September 7, 2026. This Highway Safety Grant of $2800 was received for 3 deputies to work an overtime enforcement grant that will place extra deputies working for this time period to include Labor Day Weekend.

The campaign is focused on reducing impaired driving and preventing crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or other impairing substances.

The key to reducing impaired driving is high-visibility enforcement through saturation patrols. During the campaign, the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office will increase its focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadways.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists that driving under the influence puts everyone on the road at risk. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or make other arrangements rather than getting behind the wheel while impaired.
The Sherman County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to do their part to help keep Nebraska roadways safe during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and throughout the year.

Drive sober. Drive safe. Don’t risk your life or the lives of others.

MOVE OVER! We are extremely thankful that our Trooper wasn't seriously injured when his cruiser was hit last night on I-80 near North Platte.

He was parked, with emergency lights on, moving traffic over to protect tow truck operators while they cleaned up a previous crash.
