It’s time to close the Let Us Vote page.
In May, some people gathered to see what could be done about what we felt was a misuse of Urban Renewal Authorities by our city council. We also felt that taxing food was immoral and should be addressed.
From those meetings Let Us Vote was born. It was a long road from idea, to developing the petition language, and finally actually hitting the streets to gather the signature for two petitions. Our goal was about 3500 signatures for each petition to allow for some rejections. Since we had a late start we only had 60 days to meet the deadline set by the city.
Green shirts started showing up at Farmers Markets, our Library, the Chilson Center and other places around town.
Thanks to the dedicated volunteers and the voters of Loveland that signed the petitions we surpassed our goal. Well over 4 thousand signatures were collected for each petition.
On Wednesday, August 9, the team turned in two boxes of petitions to our city clerk, Delynn Coldiron. She closed the clerk's office for Thursday and Friday that let her team work until Monday afternoon. They validated over 8 thousand signatures, confirming both petitions met the required number of signatures.
In November the voters of Loveland passed the URA and food tax exemption with a vote of 70 and 66 percent respectively.
Our goal from the beginning was to allow the voters of Loveland to have a voice on these two important issues. That goal has been met, so it is with pride and gratitude for all the support the voters gave us during this journey that we close this page. Loveland is a great city, and it gets better every time the residents get involved.
We will leave the page up until 5pm Wednesday 12/6/23 for any comments.
Health and happiness to all from the Let Us Vote team..
