Project Self-Sufficiency of Northern Colorado

Project Self-Sufficiency of Northern Colorado Bringing the power of education to single-parents.

For more than 30 years, the work of Project-Self Sufficiency has been dedicated to transforming the lives of single parents, their families and the communities where they live and work, through access to education and career development. Our promise as an organization is to cultivate the grit and determination necessary for a lifetime of achievements for single parents and their children. In other

words, we help them develop their own power, the selfpower, that is essential to push through barriers in order for them to live a completely different life.

Gratitude in Action!

Despite the rain, we had an incredible time at the CSU Lagoon Concert last night celebrating something truly special. A huge thank you to Houska Automotive for their generous donation of a vehicle to one of our very deserving participants, Lupe!

Watching Lupe receive her car after all her hard work to become a radiology tech was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at Project Self-Sufficiency.

Moments like this show just how life-changing community support can be.
We are so grateful for partners like Houska Automotive Service, Inc. who believe in our participants and help make their goals a reality.

Thank you, LJ, and your amazing team!

And congratulations, Lupe, we are so proud of you!

Summer is the perfect excuse to do something you already love, and make it count for something bigger.

Host a backyard barbecue and pass the hat. Challenge your friend group to a 5K. Throw a birthday party and ask for donations instead of gifts. Set up a lemonade stand with your kids. Whatever your summer looks like, there's a way to weave a little purpose into it.

Every dollar raised through a community fundraiser goes directly toward helping single parents in Northern Colorado pay for housing, transportation, childcare, and the education that changes everything.

This is our 40th year. Help us bring more people into the mission.

We went full 80s at our SelfPower Celebration on June 11—celebrating scholarship recipients, program grads, and college graduates who turned grit into incredible achievements. With inspiring words from our program graduate Jessica, Nordy’s BBQ, kids activities from Canvas Bank, and the support of our donors and board members, it was a joyful night of community and success!

For 40 years, we've stood beside every kind of family on their path toward economic independence. The single fathers juggling classes and bedtime routines. The grandparents raising a second generation with everything they have. The chosen family stepping in without hesitation.

Freedom is more than a moment. It's the conditions that make it real.

On Juneteenth, we honor the long journey toward true freedom and the work still ahead to make economic independence accessible to every family.

Project Self-Sufficiency exists because freedom from poverty, from crisis, from the fear of an uncertain future, is something every person deserves to pursue.

We stand in solidarity with all families working toward a future that is fully their own.

At 33, she finally said: I'm going to make it happen.

Kendall had been working a mid-shift manufacturing job, earning under $20 an hour, figuring out late-night childcare for her daughter, wondering when she'd ever just get to be present with her kid. The exhaustion was real. So was the determination.

A cousin told her about Project Self-Sufficiency. She showed up, met her advisor, and didn't stop.

Now she's finishing her AA in Business at Front Range Community College next year, with plans to transfer to CSU for her BSBA in management. Her daughter signed up for basketball. Kendall signed up for the rest of her life.

"At 33 years old, I finally took that leap in faith and said I am going to make it happen." — Kendall

We’re honored to be a part of journeys like Kendall’s, offering holistic support and celebrating every milestone along the way.

Thank you to Volunteers Enriching Weld for their incredible generosity in awarding scholarships to eight of our single parent students! Your support is helping them continue their education and move closer to completing degrees in biology, nursing, psychology, elementary and secondary education, business, allied health, and agriculture. These scholarships make a real and lasting difference in the lives of our students and their families, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to empowering their success.

We were honored to recognize our Single Parent Scholarship recipients and their families at a reception at The Bargain Box on June 1st. A total of 22 scholarships were awarded to students at Aims Community College and the University of Northern Colorado. Congratulations to all of the recipients!

She drove delivery routes with her kids in the car on weekends just to keep the lights on.

Jessica came to Project Self-Sufficiency as a Weld County single parent juggling Amazon Flex shifts, online classes, and two kids. Her passion was always art. Her path forward wasn't always clear.

Now she's graduating with her AA in Studio Art and heading to UNC for her BA in Education. She wants to be the art teacher who gives other kids what art gave her: a way through.

"The more you focus on yourself and your education, the more opportunities will come your way. You're smart. You're going to be fine." — Jessica

That's SelfPower. In our 40th year, help us make more stories like Jessica's possible: https://heyor.ca/sbyY6L
