Nevada Speed Test - Western Nevada Development District

https://wndd.org/nevada-speed-test/

Hey Nevada Friends and Family! Please take the Nevada Speed Test. We are mapping internet speeds to help us know what we have, where are the gaps, where is it great, and what is lacking. The mapping will help us prepare for grants, creating projects for more infrastructure, and so much more.

Take the test often. Take the test on all your devices. When you are out and about use your phone and take the speed test (even when you're visiting friends, sitting in the car waiting for someone, etc.!).

Share this post! I appreciate your support!

The Nevada Speed Test is part of the Western Nevada Broadband Initiative, a network of public and private partners working to expand internet access and build a stronger digital infrastructure in urban and rural communities across the region.

Mayor announces funding assistance for burn clean-up, demolition
Special to News4Nevada
Tuesday, October 27, 2020 1:00 AM

LOVELOCK — The City of Lovelock has received welcome news from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.

The city has been approved for assistance with burn debris cleanup and structural demolition originating from an early morning fire on November 18, 2019, that destroyed three Main Street buildings.

There is no set funding amount through the Nevada Brownfields Program; instead, NDEP project engineer David Friedman said in the award letter that funding will be provided “in the form of services for appropriate demolition and removal of the property structures and burn debris and disposition of all waste materials in a safe and compliant manner.”

Mayor Mike Giles said he and other officials were elated with the news. “This has been a lesson in patience and perseverance,” he said. “The sheer amount of debris and demolition was daunting, not to mention the hazardous waste aspect, so we had to find the right collaborative partners to help ensure an appropriate cleanup.”

The mayor gave a significant nod to Heidi Lusby-Angvick, executive director of the Pershing County Economic Development Authority, who began the Nevada Brownfields Program application process in February.

“Heidi has been an amazing liaison in this process,” said Mayor Giles. “From the beginning, she wanted to see this done well and correctly to further help position Lovelock as a desirable economic destination.”

The mayor also acknowledged the many citizens who stepped forward—“literally shovel in hand”—to assist with the project, even as the city’s hands were tied due to the need to retain a qualified abatement and demolition contractor—something that was beyond the city’s reach.

“I love that about our community,” said Mayor Giles. “Our residents are always ready to help at a moment’s notice.”

Under the award, the Nevada Brownfield’s Program and environmental and engineering firm McGinley & Associates will coordinate all work to clear the four property parcels in the safest and most compliant manner possible.

The mayor said the NDEP has not specified an exact start date, but with possible hazardous waste in the debris left from the fire, he said the agency appears anxious to begin the cleanup as soon as possible.

“The NDEP has been very helpful and understanding during this process,” said Mayor Giles. “I have every confidence that together we can clean up these Main Street properties and prepare for even better days ahead.”

Big Meadow Recycling Center

Great news about our recycling center!

good morning RECYCLERS, possible good news thru a report on the recycle center at the county commission meeting Wednesday, we may be able to reopen in the near future. The City of Lovelock has stepped up with two people committing to 4 hours a week to baling our product for shipment. Once we have that commitment in place and people trained, we can reopen. Keep your fingers crossed.
The recycle Center from 2015-2020 has baled over 350 bales of recyclables equaling approximately 350 garbage truck loads and 240,516 pounds of recyclable product that didn't make it to the landfill. That is around 12,600 household Waste Management pick-up garbage cans. This is a pretty big WOW..
