Update as of Friday 2pm: Both trails have been cleared. Enjoy the weekend!

Following yesterday's quick severe storms that moved through the region. We had several trees down along our trails. Those that we are currently aware of from initial notices and assessment are located at: Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail MP 1.75 on the western trail, and on the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail between MP 5 and 5.5 not far past the Tye River Bridge.
We are coordinating with crews this morning to have those removed and clear the trails. We are hopeful they will be cleared today, however this may take through tomorrow. We are certain the trails will be fully cleared heading into the beautiful weekend.
If you are on the trails today or tomorrow, please use caution around any down trees.

Thank you to our regular trail users that help keep us informed on trail conditions and reports down trees or trail damage. If you ever notice any unfavorable conditions on your visits, do not hesitate to reach out to us via phone (434)263-7130 during business hours or by emailing us at [email protected]. Your assistance is appreciated to make us aware of damage so we can start the removal/repair process as soon as possible.

Our first week of activity/snack bags was a success. I hope everyone enjoys the goodies inside. The following weeks are open to register on our website at www.nelsoncountyrecreation.com. I want to thank the Kid Care program for their donations to help us get going on this new program, and our local Dollar General for their donations. This is about community and helping others. I hope everyone has a safe fun-filled summer. Don't forget that on Wednesdays is our NCPR Discovery Day, we have toys and crafts out from 9:30-12:30.

There is still time to register for our Future Govs Youth Basketball Camp.
We will have a few extra shirts of most sizes for continued registrations. These extra shirts will only be available on a first come first serve basis as size quantities remain. All previous registrations prior 3:30pm today, 5/26 are guaranteed a camp shirt. The final deadline to register will be May 31. Any in person or over the phone registrations will need to be received by 4pm on Friday, May 29.
We already have over 40 hoopers registered! Let's continue to develop and grow the future of basketball in Nelson County.

We are happy to be partnering with Nelson County High School to kick off the summer with a Future Govs Basketball Camp. The camp will take place June 2nd through the 4th from 9 am to 12 pm. Both Nelson County basketball programs will run the camp. The camp is open to ages 5-14. All participants of the camp will receive a Future Govs camp shirt at the conclusion of the camp. Nelson County Parks and Recreation is offering Activity Snack bags through the summer to kids. Must be a Nelson County resident, spots are limited, and this is completely FREE. Happy Happy Friday everyone! Today is Bingo day at the Nelson Center at 1:00, the cost is $5.00 for ten rounds. If you are planning to make it out in the rain, be safe and call ahead at 434-263-7130 so that we can have a warm seat waiting for you.
