Chet A. Hippler age 55

Chet Alan Hippler, 55, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 9, 2026, at MercyOne in Clinton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, at Pape Funeral Home, and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at the Andover Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Andover Fire Station. Pallbearers will be Dave Hoffman, Jon Meyermann, Dennis Eggers, Ryan Jargo, Earl Burken, and Ben Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rich Johannsen, Bryan Hippler, Michael Hippler, David Marx, and Daniel Marx.
Chet was born on August 21, 1970, in Davenport, the son of Carl and Joan (Schilling) Hippler. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1989. In 1999, he joined the Andover Fire Department where he proudly served 26 years. On November 11, 1995, he married Deb Marx at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton.
Chet was a proud and devoted member of the Andover Fire Department, serving as Assistant Chief and dedicating much of his life to the service of others. His commitment to first responders extended beyond the firehouse as co-founder of Hero Haven, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting the mental health and well-being of those who serve. Chet faithfully worked for the Clinton County Secondary Roads for 24 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. In his spare time, he found joy in tending his garden, fishing, hunting, watching hockey, experimenting with new recipes, and attending car shows. Anyone who knew Chet understood that he was a friend to all—someone who could strike up a conversation anywhere and make anyone
feel welcome.
Chet is lovingly survived by his wife of 30 years, Deb; his two daughters, Shayla Hippler of DeWitt and Heather Hippler of Cedar Rapids, and his cherished granddaughter, Averee Johnson; his parents Carl (Melanie) Hippler of DeWitt, Joan Hippler of Davenport; his brothers Bryan (Jodi) of Grand Mound, Michael (Mary Lou) of Davenport and his is sister Amanda Taylor of Davenport. He also leaves behind his two beloved furry companions, Sosha and Bodie, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved teasing. He was preceded in death by his favorite furry companion, Mia; his grandparents, Andrew and Catherine Hippler and George and Marie Schilling; and his father-in-law, Harlan Marx.
Memorials may be directed to the Andover Fire Department, First Presbyterian Church, or Hero Haven.
