Another amazing trail camera montage thanks to land steward, Steven Nagle Photography! Almost all the animals made an appearance at Hawk Valley Farm in April. It may only be 5 acres, but this area of open space provides habitat for many flora and fauna that are thriving. And thanks to trail cameras, we get to be a fly on the wall both day and night!

The second full moon of May, called a "blue moon", will be visible this weekend if the weather allows! It's also a micromoon, so it will appear smaller than usual due to its orbit being at the farthest point from Earth.

The 31st May 2026 full Moon will be a 'Blue Micromoon'. Find out what these definitions mean and top tips for observing it.

As the weather warms up, mulch can be a lifesaver for your trees. It retains moisture, saving you time and water while keeping your trees healthy and refreshed. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.

The DOs and DON'Ts of Mulching:

DO use the 3-3-3 method: Apply a 3-inch layer of mulch in a 3-foot ring around the tree, keeping it 3 inches away from the trunk.

DON'T build a "mulch volcano": Piling mulch directly against the bark traps moisture, which can lead to rot, insect damage, and poor root structure.

📣 Sharing this important PSA and another reminder about adult turtles crossing roads now through about the end of June ... 🐢
🐢... and their little hatchlings will be crossing later this summer.
📣Please drive with caution!

IMPORTANT PSA: This time of year, turtles are crossing roads looking for food, mates, or the perfect place to lay their eggs. Please keep an eye out while driving!

If you spot a turtle in the road:

Make sure you’re safe first - pull over carefully.

Move the turtle in the direction it was going, never back the way it came.

Don’t pick it up by the tail as it can hurt them!

For snappers, use a car mat or gently hold the back of the shell just over the hind legs. Do not pick them up by the front or sides of the shell as they have long necks and can bite.

Never take a turtle with you - just help it safely across.

Let’s keep them safe this season. 💚
