The Lowell City Council Regular Meeting will be held in the auditorium at Lowell Middle School located at 750 Foreman St. SE at 7:00 PM on Tuesday September 8, 20226. They will be holding a special meeting at 5:00 PM in City Council Chambers at 301 E. Main whereby they will be entering into a closed session to consider material exempt from discussion and disclosure by state or federal statute. There is no anticipated council action on this for the 5:00 PM meeting.

Beginning on Monday August 17, 2026 Bowes Rd. will be closed from Valley Vista Drive to West Drive for the new housing project on Bowes Road to connect to the water main. There will still be access to all businesses on Bowes Road. Access to the boat launch from the east of West St. Stoney Lakeside Park will still be accessible going east on Bowes past Valley Vista Drive. We anticipate two weeks for this closure. We apologize for the inconvenience.

As unfortunate as it is, we have not been able to secure a venue to accommodate our community in a safe and productive way. Therefore, I have made the decision to again cancel our regularly scheduled council meeting on July 20th. We have secured the Lowell Middle School for our upcoming meetings on August 3rd and both meetings in September, October, November and December. We look forward to welcoming all community members who wish to engage in the process. We are also actively working on an option for the August 17th meeting and will do our very best to keep everyone informed on the progress. I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we navigate through the process.

Statement from Mayor Mike DeVore regarding the Monday July 6, 2026 City Council Work Session and City Council Meeting:

Due to an anticipated increase in attendance and interest, while acknowledging both safety and capacity concerns, I have made the decision to cancel our regularly scheduled work session and council meeting on July 6th. To provide a platform for citizen involvement, we will move both agenda and work session items to the regularly scheduled meeting on July 20th. We are actively seeking a larger venue that will allow for city business to proceed while allowing for residents to engage with fewer restrictions. We will always strive to allow those wishing to be involved or heard the opportunity to do so. We will also be discussing options to conduct future meetings in a way that is fair and productive for all. Thank you for your patience as we navigate finding a meeting format that is beneficial to everyone.

Please support Lowell Arts in their crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to paint five murals in Lowell. They are looking to raise $25,000 by July 31st and for every dollar raised the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will match this dollar for dollar. More information is below.

The City of Lowell City Council had a Work Session planned for Monday June 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM to discuss water and sewer rates. Due to a scheduling conflict, this meeting will be moved to 5 PM on Monday July 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM prior to the City Council Meeting at 7:PM.

The June 15, 2026 City Council Meeting will go on as scheduled at 7 PM.

***** Flood Update ***** April 18, 2026 11:55 AM

As of 8:20 AM on April 18, 2026, the National Weather Service reported an observed river level of 15.19 feet in Lowell; flood stage is 15.0 feet. The river is now projected to crest at 15.8 feet by 2:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2026, with water levels expected to begin receding at approximately 8:00 PM Monday evening. This projection is lower than yesterday’s estimate.

This is considered a minor flood event, with water levels similar to last week’s event. The City of Lowell anticipates that South Jackson Street will become impassable by Saturday night, with the potential to reopen on Tuesday or Wednesday. If any streets are closed, the Police Department will cite individuals who drive past barricades. We also recommend avoiding any boating on the Grand River, as the current is fast and bypass pumping of the wastewater treatment facility has begun.

Please continue to follow the City of Lowell page for updates; however, unless conditions change, updates will be limited to road closures and reopenings. Notifications will also be provided on our website and to those subscribed to the City’s TextMyGov service.
