Cambodia Town Lowell Inc. Cambodia Town, Lowell, MA In 2010 under the leadership of Mr. The results showed an overwelming support of the business community for a Cambodia Town concept.

The Cambodia Town Policy of the City of Lowell emcompasses three main components: (1) designation of a special business district called Cambodia Town, (2) cultural structure installation in an initial focus area of Branch and Middlesex Streets, and (3) programmatic component. Vong Ros, then executive director of CMAA, Dr. Sengly Kong, former economic programs director in close partnership with the

then City Councilor Patrick Murphy has initiated and conducted a community survey on Lower Highlands businesses. Dr. Kong and Council Murphy have spent several weekend days to walk from business to business to compelete the survey. In addition, Dr. Kong and Council Murphy have appeared on local TV (LTC) channel 8 (that reaches 80% of Cambodians in Lowell) a couple of times sharing/informing the larger community on the Cambodia Town Initiative. Following a motion in the Lowell City Council, the Cambodia Town policy was then adopted and appropriated by the Lowell City Council. To promote (and maintain) active engagement and participation of both Cambodian American businesses and broader community, and to improve the enforcement/implementation of the Cambodia Town policy, an Independent Committee of Community Volunteers called Cambodia Town Committee was established during a Community Meeting on October 29 2011 at Lowell Elder Care on 345 Chelmsford Street. The Cambodia Town Committee has since been persistently seeking inputs and feedbacks from community members, leaders, businesses through various media, and communicate those inputs, recommendations, and concerns back to the City of Lowell for consideration in the policy implementation to ensure that balanced persepctives from different stakeholders are appropriately incorporated.
