Statement from West Penn power…….

Basically from what I am reading, we will not know about any power being restored until tomorrow.

Once again, this event has hit all of Western Pennsylvania. Please be patient

We are aware of the power outages/trees and wires down all over the city. Currently there are 1180 homes without power . We have crews out responding to each location. Please be advised that with trees/wires down, we cannot do anything until the power company comes and clears that scene and declares it safe for us or the city to remove the trees from the roadways.

Please do not approach any downed wires and assume they are not live or dangerous.

Unfortunately, due to the widespread damage from the wind, response from the power company will be delayed.

Please stay safe and I will provide more information as it becomes available

Update on Hastings Drive power outage:

I just spoke to a west Penn supervisor and a crew is already on scene. Due to multiple issues in the area, a subcontractor had to be called in. They fully anticipate power to be restored soon

We are aware of a power outage that occurred during the night affecting 139 homes in the area of Hastings Drive. The outage was caused by a vehicle accident into a pole . I just got off the phone with county 911 and they contacted West Penn Power and said power should be restored by 10 AM.

A message from Mayor Chris Fabry:

A final update for the evening....

Our road crews started at 3 am and headed home around 9 pm tonight. They are being sent home after 18 hours of plowing to get some rest before returning to the plows tomorrow at 5 am.

I appreciate everyone's patience. I know there are some that feel not enough was done or your road was not plowed enough but our crews did everything they could for everyone and most people's roads were done more than they believe. I'm proud of our crew's efforts. They will resume tomorrow morning.

As far as travel restrictions, here is the plan... the restrictions will be lifted at 7 am tomorrow morning BUT I strongly plead with everyone to not hit the roads before noon (if at all tomorrow) unless you absolutely have to. I'm not going to have restrictions in place when I know some people *have* to go to work and some businesses *must* open but if you aren't one of them, please stay in until at least noon tomorrow.

Why noon? This gives our road crew ample time to do a full pass in daylight throughout the city and hit the main roadways more than once. The less traffic on the road while they do this, the better.

I know this isn't fun for anyone so I again thank you for your patience. Have a good night and stay safe. Thank you.

Effective 11:00 AM, the city of Lower Burrell has declared a disaster emergency.

What this means is, it allows us to apply for assistance if needed. In addition it also, allows us to limit travel on city roadways to essential and emergency vehicles only.

Once again, please be safe

Latest updates have us getting 14 to 18 inches of snow today

Once again, please stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.

Also, as mentioned before, please look out for your neighbors who need assistance.

Latest reports show that we will between 9”-12” of snow. Once again, let me remind you that the storm of 2010 said we were going to get 8”and we ended up getting 20”. Now this could go the other way as well and we could get less than expected

I am asking all residents to finish up with their preparations today and make sure they have enough supplies so there is absolutely no need to go out onto the roads on Sunday. Please allow the street crews to do their jobs with ease without having to deal with unnecessary traffic.

Another thing that I do ask, all residents is to be kind and take care of your neighbors, especially those elderly ones that need assistance.

I will post in the future, any further information that I feel necessary

Please stay safe
