The Lower Burrell Police Department has been notified that the 2026 “Assassin” game aka “Splashzone 2026” has begun and is involving students from Burrell School District. Participation in this game has NOT been endorsed or sanctioned by the Lower Burrell Police Department or Burrell School District in any way. As in years past, the intention of this game is to eliminate teams by sq**rting them with water guns. This creates a substantial public safety risk for our citizens and students. Students are prowling around homes with sq**rt guns that may appear as realistic weapons placing the students in jeopardy. Additionally, reports of erratic or aggressive driving have also been filed in conjunction with the game. We are encouraging families to discuss the safety risks of the game and discourage participation.

Lower Burrell Police Department would like to extend our gratitude to Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation generous donation of seventeen (17) Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs) and six (6) mass casualty response bags.

This critical equipment significantly enhances our department's ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, and large-scale incidents within our community. The addition of these life-saving resources ensures that our officers are better prepared to provide immediate medical intervention during those first crucial moments before EMS arrival. In high-risk and rapidly evolving situations, having properly equipped personnel can make a profound difference in outcomes.
Your support directly strengthens our mission to protect and serve the residents of Lower Burrell. The partnership between healthcare-focused organizations and public safety agencies is vital, and your commitment to community well-being exemplifies that collaboration at its best.

We are truly grateful for your investment in the safety of our officers and the citizens we are sworn to protect. Please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your generosity and continued support of public safety initiatives.

Officer-Involved Shooting on Rodgers Drive Under Investigation
Lower Burrell

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Lower Burrell Police Department was dispatched to Rodgers Drive for a report of an individual firing shots into a nearby residence.
Officers responded and attempted to approach the suspect’s residence in a tactical manner. Upon their arrival, the individual exited the home and began yelling at officers, making statements including “just shoot me.” At this point Westmoreland SWAT was requested and responded to the scene. An arrest and search warrant were obtained for the actor and residence.
SWAT personnel established a perimeter and barricaded the residence. Trained negotiators attempted to establish communication with the individual; however, the individual refused to engage with negotiators.
SWAT personnel then deployed additional measures in an effort to have the individual exit the residence safely. During these efforts, the individual fired multiple rounds through a window at SWAT operators. SWAT personnel returned fire, striking the individual.
The individual was subsequently taken into custody and transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh for medical treatment. The individual’s condition is unknown at this time.
No officers were reported injured during the incident.
