Update 2:30 PM: Threat Determined Not Credible

The school threat investigation has concluded, and the threat has been deemed not credible.

Throughout the day, law enforcement agencies from across Lake County worked in close coordination with local school districts and the County of Lake Board of Education to conduct a comprehensive assessment of school campuses countywide.

Personnel from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Lake County Probation, Clearlake Police Department, Lakeport Police Department, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement, and California State Parole responded to schools throughout the county to assist with campus safety and security operations.

Additionally, the Napa County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded with explosive detection K9s and conducted thorough sweeps of each high school campus in Lake County.

Following these coordinated efforts, all campuses were cleared, and the threat was determined to be not credible.

While today's events caused understandable concern for students, families, school staff, and the broader community, the response demonstrated the strength of the partnerships that exist between our law enforcement agencies, school districts, and educational leaders. The safety of our students and school staff remains our highest priority, and every reported threat will continue to be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

During the Sheriff’s Office's ongoing investigation, we determined this incident is not isolated to Lake County. Within the last month, several law enforcement partners across the State of California have responded to similar events and circumstances. We take all threats to our community and schools seriously and respond appropriately, even when other incidents in the state were determined to be not credible.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners, the County of Lake Board of Education, local school districts, school staff, and our community members for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout today's incident.

The investigation into the source of the threats remains ongoing.

Update 10:40 AM School Threat Investigations

Since this morning's initial response at Lower Lake High School, similar threats have been reported involving additional high school campuses within Lake County. Law enforcement agencies and school officials are actively coordinating their response and investigating the incidents.

Each reported threat is being taken seriously and evaluated individually. Deputies, investigators, and specialized resources have responded to affected campuses and are actively working throughout the county to ensure the safety of our school communities.

Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of student and staff safety, some school districts have elected to close schools while law enforcement conducts a thorough assessment of each reported threat. School districts are independently evaluating conditions within their respective districts and making decisions regarding school operations.

Parents and guardians should monitor communications from their respective school districts for information regarding school closures, modified schedules, student release procedures, or other school-specific instructions.

At this time, there is no additional information available regarding the source or credibility of the threats. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

We understand this situation is concerning for students, families, staff, and the broader community. We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as law enforcement and education partners work together to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Additional updates regarding the law enforcement response will be provided as information becomes available.

Bomb Threat Investigation at Lower Lake High School

This morning, May 29, 2026, at approximately 6:30 AM, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported bomb threat at Lower Lake High School. Deputies are currently on scene, and the Major Crimes Unit is en route to assist with the investigation.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Napa County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad is also responding, along with a trained detection K9, to conduct a thorough sweep of the campus and surrounding areas.

The Konocti Unified School District has canceled school for the following campuses while the threat is under active investigation: Lower Lake High School, Lower Lake Elementary School, Carle High School, and Highlands Academy. Student and staff safety remains the top priority.

Community members are asked to avoid the area around Lower Lake High School to allow emergency personnel to safely conduct their investigation.

At this time, no additional information is available for release. We ask that community members do not call Dispatch for updates, as this can interfere with emergency operations.

Parents and guardians of students within the district have been notified directly by the school. For the most current updates on school operations, please follow official communications from the Konocti Unified School District.

We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.

PREFACE

Lower Lake, CA (May 28, 2026) – Lake County Social Services, and Director Dillman Parsons, join the County Welfare Director's Association (CWDA) in praising the state Senate for their budget actions in today's Subcommittee #3.

"I greatly appreciate the collaboration, support, and advocacy of CWDA, CSAC (California State Association of Counties), County Administrative Officer's office, and the Lake County Board of Supervisors in ongoing efforts to protect vital safety nets for Lake County's residents in the wake of H.R. 1. Today's actions in the state Senate Subcommittee #3 give me hope. I look forward to the Assembly's plan with anticipation and will continue to advocate to protect those at risk."

STATE SENATE OFFERS BOLD VISION FOR CALIFORNIA’S FUTURE

Sacramento, CA- The following statement can be attributed to Carlos Marquez III, Executive Director of the County Welfare Director’s Association of California, on the Senate’s budget actions taken in Subcommittee #3 today.

“Since President Trump signed H.R. 1 into law, county welfare leaders have urgently called on state leaders to stand in the breach and prevent an historic hunger and healthcare crisis. Today, thanks to the bold leadership of Pro tempore Limón, and Budget Chairs Laird and Menjivar, as well as Sen. Dr. Weber Pierson, the State Senate took decisive action to protect those at the tip of the spear of Trump’s cruel and immoral policies - choosing to preserve life-saving access to food and healthcare by ensuring counties have the staffing resources necessary to buffer the worst impacts of H.R. 1 on our communities.

“With the lives of millions of Californians on the line, and the future of our safety net at stake, the State Senate chose not to flinch or budge an inch from its stated values, choosing to stand up to and reject the Administration’s proposed county cost shift and de facto service cuts to In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Adult Protective Services, the Medi-Cal asset limit, and offering instead a transformational vision for the future of home and community-based care that will enable even more seniors and people with disabilities to access their health and safety needs sustainably and close to home. We urge the Legislature and Administration to embrace this vision by properly funding counties to support newly eligible IHSS recipients in navigating this transformation, and by repealing remaining county cost shifts that are incompatible with this vision.

“As counties brace for community-wide impacts from H.R. 1., including working to prevent increased involvement of children and families in the Child Welfare System due to the elimination of concrete supports like food and healthcare, we thank Senate leadership for preserving flexible family supports for children, youth, and caregivers in foster care and urge the Legislature and the Administration to double down on our progress in reducing foster care entries by continuing to invest in adequate funding for Child Welfare Emergency Response at this critical juncture. We also urge the final budget to strengthen the state’s proposed CalFresh H.R. 1 implementation and a solution to prevent hunger for those cut off from federal food assistance.

CWDA urges the Assembly and Administration to adopt equally bold budget proposals and we look forward to working in partnership to protect our communities during this fraught moment for the safety net.”
