East Boise County EMS District is accepting applications for:

⭐ Part-Time EMT

Are you an experienced EMT who takes initiative, works well independently, and wants to make a difference in rural EMS? We want to hear from you!

East Boise County EMS District serves approximately 1,300 square miles throughout East Boise County, including Idaho City, Lowman, Placerville, Centerville, Wilderness Ranch, Robie Creek, Clear Creek, and the Highway 21 corridor.

Our EMTs work in a unique rural environment where strong assessment skills, sound judgment, teamwork, professionalism, and self-motivation are essential.

🚑 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

• Hold a current Idaho State EMT license
• Hold a current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers
• Have a minimum of one year of EMS experience
• Have ambulance driving experience
• Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record
• Be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
• Be able to successfully pass drug and alcohol testing
• Be dependable, professional, and able to work effectively as part of a team
• Be comfortable providing emergency medical care in a rural environment where transport times and access to additional resources may be extended
• Be self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction
• Be willing to stay productive during slower periods by identifying tasks that need to be completed rather than waiting to be directed
• Take pride in maintaining ambulances, equipment, the station, and overall operational readiness
• Have a positive attitude and a willingness to contribute wherever needed

💪 WE'RE LOOKING FOR A SELF-STARTER

Rural EMS has busy days and it also has slower days. We're looking for people who understand that being on duty means always being ready and always contributing.

The right candidate doesn't need to be given a list of tasks throughout the day. We value EMTs who notice what needs attention, take initiative, help their partners, check equipment, maintain the station and ambulances, work on training, and find productive ways to strengthen the organization between calls.

This isn't just station-based EMS. Our district serves residents, visitors, recreation areas, mountain communities, and travelers throughout a large and diverse response area.

You'll have opportunities to work alongside local fire departments, quick-response units, law enforcement, Boise County Search & Rescue, and air medical services while responding to everything from medical emergencies and motor vehicle crashes to remote and backcountry incidents.

We are continuing to build and strengthen EMS throughout East Boise County, and we're looking for EMTs who want to be part of that growth not simply fill a seat on an ambulance.

Mile Marker 81 Fire – Highway 55 and the Banks-Lowman Road are slated to reopen tonight near the Mile Marker 81 Fire. During daylight hours Friday, both roads may be temporarily restricted to one-lane traffic with a pilot car as crews work along the roadway and clear debris as needed.

Heavy equipment may also be operating on or near the roadway. Motorists should use caution, expect possible delays and watch for firefighters and equipment while traveling through the area.

The Mile Marker 81 Fire held throughout the day with no change in acreage and remains estimated at 330 acres. Crews completed line construction and burnout operations, bringing the fire down to the highway on both sides.

Firefighters will continue extinguishing hot spots and monitoring areas that are too steep to safely access. Containment is still anticipated Friday, Aug. 14, by noon.

One crew is expected to be released Friday, with the incident transitioning to Type 4 incident command Saturday morning.

Travelers are encouraged to check Idaho 511 and the Idaho Transportation Department for the latest road conditions.

🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE – HIGHWAY 55 / BANKS AREA 🚧

If you’re traveling through the Banks area, please plan for delays and use extra caution.

Highway 55 will be reduced to one lane near the fire, with a pilot car in place to guide traffic through the area. Banks-Lowman Road remains OPEN.

⚠️ Watch for debris. The fire has caused a significant amount of debris to fall onto both Highway 55 and Banks-Lowman Road. Crews have been working hard to clear the roadways as quickly as possible, but additional debris can fall at any time. Please remain alert for rocks, trees, and other hazards in or near the roadway.

🔥 Fire crews are hopeful for containment on August 13, ahead of the potential Red Flag Warning and associated fire weather conditions.

Please slow down through the area, follow directions from flaggers and the pilot car, and give firefighters and road crews plenty of room to work.

Update

Incident Update: Mile Marker 81 Fire
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 12, 2026, 6:30pm MT

(Banks, Idaho) – The Mile Marker 81 Fire burning near the intersection of Highway 55 and the Banks-Lowman Road to Garden Valley has had its northward spread halted. The fire remains on the ridge sandwiched between those two roads.

There have been many calls to the IDL Southwest Supervisory Area office regarding social media reports indicating the fire has jumped across roads and rivers. As of time of this news release, THOSE REPORTS ARE FALSE. Firefighting operations are working to keep that from happening. Please refer to official sources only.

A Type 3 Incident Commander is taking command due to the complexity of the incident and another crew ordered for support. Firefighting efforts will focus on securing the fire edge and conducting burn out operations to reduce risk of the fire spotting. These efforts are expected to be done to achieve containment by noon on 8/13. This will also be ahead of the Red Flag warning at 3pm 8/13 for potential lightning and associated outflow winds.

New Incident: Mile Marker 81 Fire
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 12, 2026, 9:00am MT

(Banks, Idaho) – The Mile Marker 81 Fire is burning near the intersection of Highways 55 and 17, approximately 1 ½ miles northeast of Banks, Idaho. The fire was first reported about 3:00am and has grown to about 100 acres.

This fire is highly visible and impacting both highways. No evacuations have been put in place at this time. Boise County Sheriff’s Office will issue any evacuation notices if needed. The Idaho Transportation Department is establishing traffic control in the area. There will be a high amount of firefighter vehicle traffic on these highways and side roads. Use caution when travelling in the area for your safety and that of the firefighters.

Current resources on scene are 4 fire engines and a firefighter module with more resources and aircraft ordered. Two helicopters will be using the Payette River to fill its water bucket, so recreational users of the river are advised to stay clear. Other aircraft will be working on the fire as well. Do not use drones near this fire as it is dangerous to the aircraft and will hinder firefighting efforts if aircraft have to stop work due to a drone in the area.
