October 15, 1986 is the day that the Lowndes Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department was βofficiallyβ found and recorded with the State of Missouri. From that day, began the process of forming what you now see today. Over the years there have been many good men and women who have aided in keeping the department up and running, to be able to serve the residents of Eastern and South Eastern Wayne County. Lowndes Fire Department is funded and operated by fire tag sales, donations and funds raised throughout the year and is a non-profit organization.
Through Missouri State, US Federal Grants as well as the Missouri Department of Conservation, we are able to gain access to new and like new equipment and gear that is needed to better serve the residents of our community that may need aid at anytime day or night. In 2008 thanks to a US Federal Grant the Lowndes Fire Department was able to complete an expansion to the station to be able to further house additional apparatus and equipment. We continue to this day to be frugal with the money that is raised and donated by our volunteers and community.
Thanks to the donations and funds raised our current apparatus fleet is comprised of: One Fire Engine/Pumper, 2 Fire Truck Tankers, 1 Rescue Truck/Mini Pumper and 1 Brush Truck. As well as an entire inventory of smaller equipment and tools that are needed for various emergency calls.
What ever the nature of the call, we currently have a listed total of 26 Volunteer Fire Fighters and First Responderβs. Our volunteers lives all across the Lowndes Fire Protection Area, and are ready and willing to answer the call 24/7. We also have countless numbers of local residents who volunteer their time and resources throughout the year. The Lowndes Fire Department currently responds to approximately 25 to 30 emergency call per year. These emergency calls range from medical first response, house fires, wild land fires (brush, forest or grass fires), motor vehicle accidents and search & rescue. Our coverage area includes the towns or communities of Lowndes, Clubb, Hiram, Cowan, Burbank, McGee, Crossroads and Richmond Chapel Area. We also give mutual aid, as well as receive mutual aid from many of our neighboring Fire Departments in Wayne and Bollinger Counties.
