🍁 Fall 2026 Internship at the SPWRC!🦉

We are now accepting applications from students interested in gaining hands‑on experience in wildlife rehabilitation. We offer both for‑credit internships (with advisor approval) and non‑credit internships for résumé and career development.

Internships require ~105 hours per semester, averaging 10–15 hours per week depending on your schedule. This is a full‑semester commitment designed to provide meaningful experience in wildlife care, education, outreach, and daily operations at a working rehabilitation facility.

Interns start with essential tasks such as cleaning, dishes, laundry, basic maintenance, and feeding wildlife. Students who demonstrate reliability, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a positive team‑focused attitude may earn opportunities to assist with more advanced responsibilities such as educational programs, wildlife transport, intake triage, outreach events, and even learning to safely glove and handle ambassador raptors!

This internship is ideal for students studying wildlife biology, conservation, natural resources, veterinary sciences, biology, ecology, or any field related to animal care or environmental stewardship.

Apply today: spwrc.org/internship

We appreciate your support in sharing this opportunity with anyone who would benefit from hands‑on experience with native wildlife!

We are feeling incredibly thankful this beautiful Tuesday! 💙

A huge shoutout to one of our amazing volunteers, Heather Henthorn, for helping us purchase a new industrial washer!

For years, we've relied on donated residential washers that were already well-used, so unfortunately they never lasted very long. Earlier this summer, our washer broke down, leaving us struggling to keep up with the growing laundry demands.

When Heather learned about our need, she generously stepped in to help purchase a new commercial Speed Queen washer, and what a difference it has already made! It has significantly reduced our laundry backlog, runs more efficiently, and will serve us well for years to come.

Sage, our Mississippi kite says, “THANK YOU, HEATHER!” We appreciate your generosity and support and are so thankful for the unconditional love, kindness, and dedication of our volunteers and supporters. Your willingness to step up when needs arise helps make our mission possible every day 🫶

Also - Look at Sage’s beautiful grey adult plumage coming in! She’s gorgeous!

Happy Friday, everyone! Thank you for sticking with us during a very intense baby season — we haven’t posted much lately, but we have an important project to share today.

Next month, Joey, a local scout with Scouting of America, will begin the project required to earn his Eagle Scout rank. He has spent the past year planning and designing three new opossum cages and two squirrel cages for SPWRC. Our current cages are far past their usable lifespan, and replacing them is critical for the safety and care of the animals we intake every day.

We raised some funds during Giving Tuesday, but the sheer volume of wildlife admitted this season pushed our resources to the limit. We urgently need help covering the remaining costs so Joey can complete this project and our animals can finally have the upgraded enclosures they need.

In addition to monetary donations, we are also seeking wood and metal roofing materials for the construction. If you have extra materials available, or know someone who might, please contact us directly!

If you’re able, please consider donating directly to Joey’s Eagle Scout project using the link below. Every contribution moves this project forward and directly improves the care we can provide.
