UTA PD Officer Norrid was featured in a recent "Meet a Maverick" article in the UTA MavWire. Great to have such wonderful members of our UTA PD Team!

Meet a Maverick

UTA Police Officer Jason Norrid graduated from West Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in December 2021 and set out to fulfill his life-long dream of being a police officer. While in college, he gained experience as a public safety officer at Lubbock Christian University, and after graduation, he got his start as a police cadet at Lubbock Police Department. In December 2022, He started at UTA PD, excited to return to the University atmosphere and serve as a mentor and guardian to college students and the UTA community.

Norrid received a Life-Saving Award in May 2024 for his efforts during an emergency involving a student.

“Officer Norrid’s quick and decisive actions in a critical moment exemplify the kind of bravery and competence that we strive to achieve here at UTA and demonstrate why he is a great addition to this department,” Assistant Chief of Police Jennifer Stephenson says. “His actions show his deep commitment to ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff. By saving a life, Officer Norrid made a significant and tangible impact on the campus community.”

Norrid takes pride in providing exceptional police services, prioritizing professionalism and continuous improvement. “I get to protect and impact the lives of the campus community. I also get to work with some of my best friends,” he says. “It is the best job in the world.”

Recent weather and the upcoming weather forecast are a good reminders for how the university will communicate with you should road conditions deteriorate to the point where we cancel or delay classes for the day.

Such decisions will typically be made in the early morning hours and will be communicated by e-mail to all students, faculty, and staff. Be sure to check your LCU e-mail before you head to campus on any morning when road conditions might be icy to make sure we have not canceled or delayed classes. Do not expect a message from your LCUAlert for winter weather. As always, you are in the best position to determine whether you can get to campus safely. Even if campus is open and classes are in session, do not attempt to come to campus if it is not safe for you to do so.

In the event of sudden and emergent threats, such as a tornado or an unexpected ice storm, LCU maintains its emergency notification system, LCUAlert, to push rapid notifications to the campus community via e-mail, SMS, and texts. We typically use the LCUAlert system only in situations where your immediate response to a sudden threat may be required.

Conversely, we will typically use e-mail notification only to communicate our response to situations or threats that have been forecast in advance and are more broadly anticipated such as a winter storm system approaching the region.
