Construction has officially begun on the Lubbock Lake Landmark Wildflower Trail, after it was vandalized last October. We apologize for the delay, but 336 acres and 4.5 miles of trails are maintained with only three operations employees. We are grateful for your patience. We are fundraising to buy materials for the rebuild. You can now donate online directly to the Landmark Support Fund for the sole purpose of reconstructing the Wildflower Trail. We appreciate you all for your interest, generosity, and support of our site. Link for online donations can be found here:

The August Night Hike is canceled due to an extreme heat advisory. Our visitors’ safety comes first.

Gates open at 7:20 p.m. for our Saturday, Aug. 22nd, Night Hike. Gates close again at 9:40 p.m. Guided hikes start at 7:50 p.m. Please note that we are protected by state and federal laws. No dogs are allowed on the trails for their safety, the safety of our wildlife, and the protection of our nature preserve and archaeological site. Also, trails are only open when the Interpretive Center is open during public hours. Thank you for your cooperation.

The first AstroNight of the new season has been rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27th from 8-11:30 p.m. at the Lubbock Lake Landmark so that we can view the lunar eclipse together.

Date change for the first Astronight, which will now be held on August 27th so we can enjoy together the almost total lunar eclipse.

Our department’s favorite outreach event is back! 🔭✨

AstroNights returns for the 2026-2027 academic year, with another full season of evenings under the stars! Join us throughout the year for telescope observing, astronomy activities, and a chance to explore the night sky with astronomers and students from Texas Tech.

Events will be held at the Lubbock Lake Landmark and the Museum at Texas Tech, with our first AstroNight of the year taking place on Friday, August 27, from 8:00--11:30 PM at the Lubbock Lake Landmark.
