The Commanders Cup versus the Army ROTC Red Raider Battalion was a great way to kick off the week!

Cadets competed in a fireman carry relay, war movie trivia, service history trivia, phonetic spelling bee, ball throw, timed hand release push ups, and tug of war.

Although the Red Raider Battalion won overall, Det 820 worked hard and had fun. We cannot wait to continue building our relationship with the Red Raider Battalion and take home the win next year!!

Astronaut Mike Fincke visited Det 820 this past Wednesday. He spoke about his experiences in the Air Force and in space.

Col Fincke became an astronaut in 1996. Since then, he has completed four space flights. His most recent mission was in August of 2025 with the launch of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission where he served as a pilot.

Col Fincke provided cadets with valuable insights into the Air Force, space, and the importance of exploring the unknown. Thank you, Col Fincke, for dedicating your time to encourage future generations of war fighters!

Week 10 Cadet Spotlight 🎉

C/Sinclair was CIC for Operation Legacy of Service. As she seeks out opportunities to improve herself and others, C/Sinclair has shown great intentionality in making herself uncomfortable. Her leadership skills only improve as she pushes herself and others to be consistent, timely, and intentional.

C/Sinclair, Det 820 is excited to see how you continue growing, adapting, and leading!

Get to know Wing Staff! 🎉

C/Col Jacob Brody
- Wing Commander -

Major: Electrical Engineering
AFSC: 92T0 Pilot

Why did C/Col Brody join AFROTC?
“I joined AFROTC because I wanted to fly, but have learned so much more about leadership and officership in the process.”

Lesson learned in AFROTC:
“The most important lessons I have learned in AFROTC is effective leaders give credit to their people for their success and take ownership of their mistakes. If your people trust you will have their backs when they make mistakes and praise their effort when they succeed, they will follow you and trust your judgement.”

Advice:
- Take ownership of your goals.
- Stay humble in your pursuit.
- Thank everyone who helps you achieve your goals.
- You can achieve anything you put your mind to.

Run to Remember was held on Sunday afternoon to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country are not soon to be forgotten.

They fought for our freedoms.
They sacrificed everything they had to serve others.
They paved the way we now walk on.

Det 820 cadets gathered to run and honor these heroes memory and service to the United States. Thank you to C/Digonis, C/Stoppel, and C/Jacobo for sharing these heroes stories with Det 820.

Det 820 cadets got the amazing opportunity to go to New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) to participate in their Leadership Reaction Course (LRC).

These cadets challenged themselves physically and mentally. They demonstrated leadership, adaptability, teamwork, and commitment to completing their mission. These skills will take them far in the Air Force careers.

Thank you NMMI for having us! This opportunity was an experience that won’t be soon forgotten.

Legacy of Service was held on Thursday to give AFROTC and Army ROTC cadets the opportunity to learn from the veterans who have gone before them. Cadets heard stories, were given advice, and were able to ask veterans from the Navy, Army, and Air Force questions about their experiences.

A huge thank you to the Lubbock Memorial Honor Guard, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars veterans for donating your time to pour into these cadets!

Thank you to C/Sinclair and C/Covington for putting this all together!
