Introducing: THE STANDARD.

In the LCP family, we believe that education is about more than what students learn - it’s about who they become.

This spring, teachers, administrators, students and parents from across our district came together to identify the values that have long been part of the Lubbock-Cooper experience. The result is The Standard - 18 shared tenets that give our community a common language for the character and conduct we value.

The Standard isn’t about introducing new ideas or expectations. It’s about putting words to the values that have always been part of who we are, and giving us a consistent way to teach, model and celebrate them across our entire district, in every classroom, in every grade level.

Throughout the school year, we’ll be sharing more about The Standard and taking a closer look at each of its 18 tenets - what they mean, what they look like in action, and how we are living them out in our schools and community!

THE STANDARD: BUILDING THE LCP FOUNDATION
- Respond with respect, using “Yes ma’am,” “No sir,” “Please,” and “Thank you.”
- Do not cut in line.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Say “Excuse me,” if you bump into someone.
- If you cannot say anything nice or helpful, do not say anything at all.
- Treat others the way you want to be treated.
- Be a good sport. Congratulate your peers. It’s okay to be proud when you win, but do not brag. It’s okay to be disappointed when you lose, but do not pout.
- Hold the door for people.
- Always be honest.
- Shake hands and introduce yourself. When meeting new people, make them feel welcome.
- Engage fully. Maintain eye contact and listen when others speak.
- Embrace growth. It is okay to make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.
- Take initiative. Do not put off until tomorrow what you can get done today.
- Be selfless. Look for ways to be kind, thoughtful, and helpful to others without expecting anything in return.
- Stand up for yourself and others. Tell a trusted adult when you need help.
- Respect opinions. Stand up for what you believe in while respecting the comments, opinions, and ideas of others.
- Choose integrity. Do what is right, not what is easy.
- Be positive and enjoy life.

We officially kicked off the 2026–27 school year by welcoming our Lubbock-Cooper ISD staff back at our annual Back to School Convocation!

With a little help from our out-of-this-world administrators - who fully embraced the space theme - employees gathered at LCU's Rip Griffin Center for a morning of looking ahead to the incredible year to come. Superintendent Waldrip led the program, while Lubbock-Cooper ISD Board of Trustees President Daniel Castro and Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation President Krystle Pierce also addressed our staff.

Our own Pirates and Patriots helped set the tone from the very beginning, with Lubbock-Cooper HS and Liberty HS campuses sending cheer, pom, and drum line representatives to greet employees as they entered the venue, Brynlee and Jasmine (representing LCMS and LBMS) performing the national anthem, and Ellerie, Beck, and Parker (representing West Elementary) leading us in the pledges to the United States and Texas flags!

And the Lubbock-Cooper Education Foundation helped launch the year in a big way, presenting checks to every LCISD campus to kick off the year!

A special thank-you to Lubbock Christian University for allowing us to use the Rip Griffin Center, and to all of our students, staff, administrators, Board members, and Foundation members who helped make this annual tradition such a memorable way to begin a new school year.

The countdown is over. The mission is underway.
The Future is Now! 🚀✨
