You've probably heard that it takes a village. We believe it takes a family, and our family includes the most dedicated, passionate, tireless professionals! At LCISD, the caliber of our educators is awe-inspiring. Every day, our teachers and staff go above and beyond, pouring energy, creativity, and LOVE into students. When the standard of excellence is so high, standing out is no small feat! That's what makes recognition as an LCISD Educator of the Year such an impressive honor!

Out of a field of the very best, the following phenomenal individuals were named Educators of the Year by their campuses. Please join us in celebrating:

Athena Rodriguez (Lubbock-Cooper High School)

🎉 What an incredible way to wrap up another phenomenal school year! At the end of last week, LCISD staff gathered together at Lubbock Christian University for our annual End-of-Year Convocation. It was a morning filled with laughter, a few happy tears, and an overwhelming sense of LCP Pride as we celebrated the dedicated individuals who make our district thrive!

We had the privilege of honoring our milestones, including staff members celebrating anywhere from five to an incredible 40 years of service to our students. We also recognized our inspiring campus Educators of the Year for their unwavering commitment to excellence, and gave a farewell to our wonderful 2026 retirees, who earned their traditional LCISD rocking chairs as parting gifts!

To our retirees, thank you for the legacies you leave behind; to our milestone achievers, thank you for your deep loyalty; and to the entire LCISD team, thank you for your hard work and heart all year long!

Help us welcome our new South Elementary Principal, Suzanne McCall, to the LCP family!

Suzanne is a Slaton native entering her 30th year in education. She brings a wealth of experience to our district, having earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Texas Woman’s University and her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lubbock Christian University.

Over her career, Suzanne spent 20 years teaching third and fourth grade, followed by two years as an instructional coach. For the past seven years, she has served as an assistant principal and campus principal. Throughout it all, her passion has been building strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Her absolute favorite part of the job is working alongside teachers and getting to know every single student!

Suzanne and her husband, Damon, have three children: Taylor (an LCHS alumna who also attended South Elementary and LCMS), Grant, and Mason. When she isn't at school, she loves reading, walking her dog, and listening to music.

She shared, "I am excited to join the Lubbock-Cooper family, where tradition is true, and to be part of a district dedicated to creating a future where students are prepared, confident, and ready to tackle the world ahead of them. I look forward to getting to know all the students, staff, and families of South Elementary. Let's go, Pirates and Patriots!"

Welcome to the LCP family, Mrs. McCall!

As we close the school year, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our outgoing Board President, Paul Ehlers!

Paul has served our district for 16 years (10 years as Board President) with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a true servant’s heart! Throughout his time on the board and his leadership as president, he has been a steadfast champion for our students, educators, and families, always putting the needs of our school community first!

His leadership has helped guide the district through seasons of growth, milestones, and success, leaving a lasting legacy that will benefit our schools for years to come!

Thank you, Mr. Ehlers!

Our newly-elected Trustee, Shelbie Nacole, was sworn in during the May Board Meeting!

Shelbie and her husband Shawn have three children, a daughter who graduated from LCHS in 2023, a daughter entering fourth grade at Central Elementary, and a soon-to-be two-year-old son who will one day attend LCISD schools!

The family has lived in the district since 2015.Over the years, Shelbie has dedicated many hours to volunteering at school events and participating in PTO activities. These experiences have allowed her to build strong connections with teachers, staff, students, and families across the district!

Shelbie is motivated to serve because she cares deeply about the future of our schools and community. As both a parent and a volunteer, she has seen firsthand the positive impact that dedicated educators and strong leadership have on students. For Shelbie, joining the board is a way to give back to the community that has invested so much in her own family.

"Watching our kids grow through LCISD has strengthened our appreciation for the schools and the people who make this community such a wonderful place to live and learn," she shared.

Congratulations, Shelbie! Thank you for being willing to serve the on the LCISD Board of Trustees!

🎓 Once a member of the LCP family, ALWAYS a member of the LCP family! 🎒✨

The nostalgia was real as our Class of 2026 seniors headed back to where it all began!

Grads took a walk down memory lane (literally!) for their traditional Senior Walks across LCISD elementary campuses. From high-fives with our youngest Pirates and Patriots to emotional reunions with former teachers, there wasn’t a dry eye in the hallway!

To ALL of our Class of 2026 Graduates:

Whether you started your journey right here in an LCISD elementary classroom, or joined our family along the way, we could not be prouder of you! Your hard work and spirit have left an unforgettable mark on us, and no matter how far your path takes you, we will always be rooting for you from back here at home!

Thank you for the opportunity to help you build your future!
