BREAKING — We stand with our sister city of Durham in mourning the loss of a Durham firefighter who died this morning while battling a fire in the 400 block of Marly Road and Highway 70 near the Durham/Raleigh border.

Two other firefighters were injured but are expected to recover.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Durham Fire Department, the firefighter’s family and loved ones, the two injured firefighters, and all those affected.

💧 WATER LINE TIE-IN NOTICE — WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7TH 💧

The Town of Lucama would like to notify customers that water line tie-in work will be taking place Wednesday, October 7th, at Hill St. and Spring St.

🕘 Work will begin sometime between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM and is expected to take no more than 2 hours. Customers in the affected areas may experience a temporary interruption in water service while the work is completed.

🚰 Once water service is restored, please flush your faucet/run water if you notice any discoloration.

We sincerely apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience this work may cause. We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of our Lucama residents as we continue making improvements to our water system.

Please be advised that crews will be performing essential water line tie-in work on Wednesday, September 30th.

📍 Affected Areas: Granite Dr. Boulder Dr. Little Rock Church Rd.

⏱️ Duration & Potential Interruptions: The work is expected to take no more than 2 hours. Residents in these immediate areas may experience temporary service interruptions or low water pressure during this window.

💧 Post-Service Instructions: Once your water service is fully restored, please flush your system by running a water faucet for a few minutes if you notice any temporary discoloration.

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

25 years later, we still remember.

We remember the innocent lives taken.
We remember the families who never got to say goodbye.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other first responders who ran toward the danger while others were running away.

343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice that day. They answered the call, not knowing what awaited them, and showed the world what courage, selflessness, and brotherhood truly mean.

September 11th changed our nation forever, but it also reminded us of the strength that lives within our communities and the bravery of those willing to serve others.

As a volunteer fire department, we carry that responsibility with us every time the tones drop. We honor those who came before us by continuing to answer the call, serve our community, and stand ready for our neighbors.

We will never forget their sacrifice.
We will never forget their courage.
We will never forget.

Today, and always, we keep in our thoughts and prayers the families and loved ones who lost someone on September 11, 2001. Their loss was felt by a nation, but their loved ones carried that loss every day.

ATTENTION . . . There will be a FIRE FLOW TEST taking place TODAY at 2 pm. This may produce discolored water. Please avoid washing light colored laundry. The water department will be flushing hydrants directly following the test to rid the water of any sediments that are stirred during the test.
