FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

George County Regional Correctional Facility Celebrates Mississippi's First-Ever Path Home Way Grant Graduation Funded by SMPDD

Lucedale, MS – August 11, 2025 – The George County Regional Correctional Facility (GCRCF) proudly announces the graduation of five inmates from Mississippi's first-ever Path Home Way program, funded by the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District (SMPDD).

GCRCF served as the “guinea pig” for this inaugural grant and graduating class, setting the standard for what is possible through collaborative rehabilitation programs. The 16-week course began with ten students, but four were released before completion. One of those released has already secured employment at Bollinger Shipyard, turning his journey into a powerful testimony of second chances and hard work.

This success was made possible through the strong working relationship between Eric Richard, former Programs Director at GCRCF, and SMPDD. The Path Home Way program equips inmates with life skills, job readiness training, and mentorship—preparing them for successful reentry into the workforce and their communities.

"This isn’t just about earning a certificate; it’s about earning a future," said Terry Rogers, Warden. "Being the first facility to launch this program shows our commitment to giving inmates the tools to succeed after release."

GCRCF is looking forward to continuing both the grant and its partnership with SMPDD, with plans to expand opportunities and impact in future classes.

Snow Cone Sunday at George County Regional Correctional Facility

Who would’ve guessed you could become a snow cone pro in prison? Thanks to a generous donation of a snow cone machine from Panther Snow Cone, owner Eric Richard we were able to bring a little summer time into these prison walls. The facility purchased new blades, ice block molds, and a rainbow of flavors, Snow Cone Sunday was a hit!

Using the classic “flat top” method, our snow cone crew created nearly 400 cones in just over an hour. Teamwork made the ice work! With Warden Rogers, Chaplain Eric Richard, Corporal Plemmons, and our very own inmate worker/“Uber driver” Nick on delivery, the whole facility got a tasty treat.

A huge shoutout to Warden Rogers, Chap (aka Eric Richard), Ssgt Austin Sharpe, and the entire crew for making Strawberry Cheesecake Snow Cones the coolest part of the day!

Inmates get a task and suddenly they're useful, maybe even slightly good. At George County Regional Correctional Facility, they gather round the popcorn 🍿 machine, bagging it up for the compound crew. When the buttery 🧈 smells👃 hit, you know it's movie night. It's not all about the movie 🎥 for these guys. Sometimes it's grabbing some normalcy after messing up big time. They've made strides, and movie nights remind them life's still got some decent stuff.

This “popcorn and movie night” is made possible through our Chaplaincy Progam and we appreciate him, and his workers (inmates).
