Donald C. Baldwin Community Pool

Donald C. Baldwin Community Pool Donald C. Baldwin Community Pool is the only pool in Ludington. Swimmers of all ages compete against children of same age.

It is utilized by community members for exercise and students for various swim teams and swim lessons. Our swim lesson program teaches children from age 6 months to adults how to be safe in and around water. With Lake Michigan and an abundance of inland lakes and rivers our children need to be educated in the dangers and enjoyment of water. Recreation swim team competes twice a year with registrat

ions in November for winter season and April for summer season. Swimmers must be able to swim one length to participate. Our high school girls team trains in our pool August through November and the middle school and boys swim teams train November through February. Age level swim lessons are available in February through April and we also offer a summer program. Their are private fitness training and private lesson during various times all year. Water aerobics also is an important part of our community programing. This exercise opportunity is offered February through November. We also offer lifeguarding classes during the summer. As you can see our six-lane pool is very busy and an important part of our community health and fitness.

We have some good and bad news- the good news is the flooring company is coming to fix the locker room floors this week! The bad news is- we have to close for the remainder of the week to keep locker-rooms dry and areas clear so the crew can fix it.

Should things go smoothly🤞, we will be back open on 9/8/26.

⚡ Why do we clear an INDOOR pool for lightning?

It’s a question we get often and this is a good example of why!

Even though our pool is inside, the building and pool are connected to electrical grounding and bonding systems. A nearby lightning strike can travel through the ground and electrical systems and create dangerous electrical currents or voltage differences in and around a pool.

This is a great reminder that lightning doesn’t have to directly strike a building to pose a risk. ⚡

That’s why, when lightning is detected nearby, we clear the pool and wait until conditions are safe before allowing swimmers back, following MHSAA guidelines to determine.

We know it can be frustrating to have a swim interrupted when you’re safely inside, but we hope this helps!
