Please see the message below from the Black River Action Team:
Hello friends:
I'm looking for a large group of folks to come join forces with me this coming Saturday, to install 100 native silver maples on the floodplain at the Fletcher Farm Field on Route 103, at the Ludlow/Cavendish Town Line.
While the maples are currently only four feet tall, they can soar to 50-80' and are ideal floodplain and river bank species. Ideally, they will gain an average of 3-7' in height each year, although not all of the trees are expected to survive.
We will aim to install them as close to the bank as possible, to help provide shade for the river, competition for the Japanese knotweed that is being managed there, and a 'front line' against flood energy when next the Black River rises.
When: Saturday, May 30
Time: 9 am until we're done (come when you can, stay as long as you're able!)
Bring: sturdy shoes/boots to handle the uneven terrain; work gloves; sun & insect protection (including tick spray); a bottle for drinking water; a shovel if you have one; a sense of humor and adventure! Singing and telling jokes are encouraged!
Please reach out to Kelly Stettner at [email protected] if you plan to attend.
