A big shout out to all those who came out to support our fundraiser, whether you walked, ran, purchased golf ball drop tickets or raffle prize tickets. The food that the American Legion cooked was a summer classic BBQ. Birch Ridge Music (DJ) brought great music for the event. The National Anthem was played before the race to set the mood. Over 200 came across the Benson Chevrolet finish line. Racers were timed and trophies were given for the top 3 runners in each age group. The cookout started around 11:15 as golf ball tickets and raffle tickets were sold until approximately 1:30 pm. Raffle ticket numbers were pulled for the winners. The fire department’s 102ft ladder was raised in the air with the tote of golf balls. The balls were dropped onto the baseball field where a cup had been placed in the ground. One ball went in which claimed the $500 first place prize. A second-place ball touched the cup edge and claimed the $250 prize. Third place had to be measured with a tape measure because three (3) balls were about ¾ of an inch from the edge of the cup. After measuring it was determined who had third. The first-place winner had told herself she wasn’t going to win, but if did she would give the money back to the department, which she did, thank you, Jenn!
Thank you to Pinnacle Timing, Kendall's Face Painting, Crown Point Country Club, Black River Good Neighbors as well as Russ Hurlburt Photography and Birch Ridge Music.
This being our second annual event we are still learning ways for improvement. We want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding. We take your comments and suggestions very seriously and will move forward to make changes to make this event better next year.
Both Proctorsville Fire Department and Middlebury Fire Department showed up with their a-game, but in the end, Proctorsville Fire won the Fire Department Challenge.
