CASA of the Pines Court Appointed Special Advocates - A voice for abused and neglected children. What is CASA of the Pines? That’s where CASA of the Pines steps in.

Every year thousands of abused and neglected children in Texas are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults. When a child enters the foster care system because his or her home is no longer safe, a judge appoints a committed volunteer from CASA of the Pines to help them. CASA (Court Appointed Spec

ial Advocates) was created in 1995 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children suffered at home did not continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. In 1999 CASA expanded to Houston County, and to Polk County in 2003. Since 1995 CASA of the Pines has served more than 1,500 abused and neglected children in Angelina, Houston, and Polk Counties.

CASA of the Pines was happy to participate in the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce's Leading Edge program by having a person shadow and our own Trillanee Price as a participant. Both Trillanee and our person that shadowed, Emily Harmon with Angelina Beautiful/Clean are two amazing women who are going to take the skills they learned and make our community a better place.

Thank you all so much that participated in the Champions for Children Online Auction. If you are curious, here are a few closing details:
1. The auction featured 102 items.
2. 130 people registered to bid.
3. Of those 130, around 80 people were actual bidders.
4. There were 706 total bids made during the auction.
5. The item that had the most bids? That was a tie! Both the party donated by The Mill House and the weekend stay at Two Creeks Crossing Resort had 27 individual bids. Bidding wars are so fun!
6. There were 5 "You are Special" baskets bought to be delivered to foster children.
7. The auction alone brought in $21,199, and with sponsorships, $33,599.
Speaking of sponsorships, we will begin recognizing those on our social media. Thank you all who supported this event, and we look forward to next year!
