🚨🦺 Safety First at Wateree! 🦺🚨

Our Cardinals had an incredible time learning all about safety during the Safety Town program, led by SC Career Kids and sponsored by the Lugoff Optimist Club! 💛

A huge THANK YOU to the Optimist Club for organizing, sponsoring, and volunteering their time to make this event possible — and to the amazing community helpers from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department, DNR, and Lugoff Fire Department for teaching our students everything from dialing 911 on a locked phone to crossing the street, wearing life jackets, and bicycling safely. 🚓🚒🚤

We’re also so grateful for all of the parent volunteers who came out to help — your support makes such a difference! 🙌

And of course, a special shoutout to Mrs. Verdini, our wonderful school counselor, for coordinating this event for our students! ❤️

✨ Multiplication in Action! ✨
Mrs. Raines’ third graders are diving into multiplication using hands-on manipulatives from our new math curriculum! These tools help students see and model their equations as they build a strong foundation for future math success. 💪➕✖️

Wateree Elementary School History

Wateree Elementary School is located in Lugoff, South Carolina, a small community between Camden and Elgin about 30 miles northeast of Columbia. The school was constructed in the 1950s for first through eighth grades.

Due to rapid growth in the community throughout its history, Wateree Elementary was reconfigured several times and served at different points as a middle school and an upper elementary school. In the early 2000s, it was restructured to serve students in preschool kindergarten through fifth grade.

Throughout the many years, changes have been made to improve the facility. The school’s design was unique to other schools in the district with classrooms opening to the outdoor breezeways. In the early 2000s, a distinctive red roof and new gymnasium were added. The school’s library also featured a stunning 360-degree mural, by brothers Joe and Boyce McKinney, that showcased nature and wildlife scenes from the mountains to the oceans.

Wateree Elementary School’s new facility was dedicated on January 10, 2019. This facility will continue to serve the Lugoff and Elgin communities for many years to come.
