This plaque that hangs on the wall at the Forest Acres station honors those who have served at least 20 years with Northwood’s. Recently, Fire Chief Josh Windom’s name was added to it, as he reached his 20 years of service in May.
This was the first time since 1996, thirty years ago, that someone’s name was added. Thirty years! That proves that it’s not very often we get to celebrate such an accomplishment.
When asked what it meant to him, Chief Windom stated that he is blessed to have been with Northwood’s since May of 2006, and that he is honored to have his name included with the other 8 men who have also served at least twenty years.
Congratulations to Chief Josh Windom on reaching this milestone, and thanks for the love and dedication you show to our department and its members, and to the citizens of our district.

Junior firefighters are the future of the fire service, and we were happy to add two more to our department last week. Welcome to Jeremiah Reyes and Brady Lawson, and thank you for your willingness to serve. They are already being put to the test performing hydrant maintenance on a hot day, and are doing great.

Thoughts and prayers going out to East Howellsville Fire Department for their loss, and to the family of a good man who many respected. Rest in peace sir.

It is with great sadness that the East Howellsville Fire Department informs you of the passing of Firefighter Mr. Billy Cox.
Mr. Cox was our last living charter member, and he will always be remembered for the pride, dedication, and sense of ownership he carried for the East Howellsville Fire Department. Mr. Billy served as Secretary of the East Howellsville Fire Department for over 40 years.
I realize that some of you never had the opportunity to meet him, but I had the privilege of fighting fire alongside Mr. Billy, and he was truly a great firefighter. Even up until very recently, Mr. Billy continued attending meetings. When he reached the point where he could no longer drive, one of his children would bring him so he could still be there with his department family.
We could all learn a lot from his dedication and commitment.
Mr. Billy, we know you are with Jesus now, but we also know that when that EHFD tone drops again — whether it be today, tomorrow, next week, or next year — you’ll still be riding with us to that next call.
Please keep the Cox family and the East Howellsville Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Thanks to Deputy Chief Bruce Caulder and Captain Charlie Roller for going down to Fouts Fire in Georgia today to begin the process of purchasing a new rescue/equipment truck, and a 3,000 gallon tanker. We should take delivery in about a year.

UPDATE:

🏠 The evacuation order for residents of Veterans Road in Saint Pauls has been lifted! If you haven’t done so, you may return home. There will still be smoke and you may see firefighters assessing the area.
🏠 There were NO residences lost in the fire.

It was a massive fire and a scary situation for many of you and our firefighters, but this is a great outcome. Thank you so much to everyone for your kindness and prayers. Thank you again to our neighboring fire departments that came to our aid. We couldn’t have done it without you.
