The second quarter of 2026 was an exceptionally busy one for the Lumberton Township Police Department. Throughout the quarter, Detective Charles Jones served as the lead investigator on numerous significant cases.
Most notably, he successfully managed not one, but TWO murder investigations occurring less than 3 weeks apart, in addition to a su***de investigation and a fatal motor vehicle collision.
Prior to these incidents, the Lumberton Township Police Department had not investigated a murder in more than EIGHT YEARS, underscoring the rarity and complexity of Detective Jones leading two homicide investigations within a short three-week period.
Despite the demanding caseload, Detective Jones remained organized, detail-oriented, and professional while serving as the sole detective assigned to the Detective Bureau throughout the month of June, when the majority of these complex and lengthy investigations took place.
At tonight’s Lumberton Township Committee meeting, Detective Jones was recognized as the Lumberton Township Police Department’s Officer of the Second Quarter for his outstanding hard work, dedication, and commitment to the community.
Congratulations, Detective Jones, and thank you for your continued service. Keep up the phenomenal work!
