Robeson County EMS would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Joseph Deese.

Dr. Deese was a great physician who was loved and respected by all EMS employees. He always took the time to truly listen during patient hand-offs, never interrupting or belittling EMS crews, and consistently showing respect to every EMS clinician he encountered. His compassion, professionalism, and outstanding bedside manner with both patients and families will never be forgotten.

Dr. Deese diligently served as the Robeson County EMS Medical Director in 2011, and his dedication to the citizens of our community made a lasting impact on countless lives.

Thank you, Dr. Deese, for your service, leadership, and unwavering support of EMS and our community. You will be greatly missed.

Please keep the Deese family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Robeson County EMS – Life Saved

We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Compression Works and Bound Tree Medical for recognizing the outstanding efforts of our EMS crews in saving a life.

A few months ago, Robeson County EMS responded to a shooting involving a critically injured patient with significant blood loss. Our paramedics quickly identified the severity of the situation and requested an Advanced Practice Paramedic to respond to the scene.

Upon arrival, the AP Medic performed a life-saving intervention by applying an Abdominal Aortic Junctional Tourniquet (AAJT) and initiating whole blood administration. Through rapid decision-making, advanced care, and teamwork, the patient was stabilized—and is alive today.

This marks the first documented use of the AAJT in the State of North Carolina.

We are incredibly proud of our Advanced Practice Paramedics and EMTs whose skill, training, and dedication made this outcome possible. This is what high-performance EMS looks like.

Please join us in recognizing these providers for making a difference when it mattered most.
