Preparedness happens long before an emergency call comes in.

Today, members of the Lumberton Police Department and Lumberton Fire Department joined other local emergency response partners for a tour of the Robeson CRV facility as part of ongoing mutual aid efforts.

The visit gave our first responders an opportunity to learn the facility’s layout, operations, access points and emergency procedures and to discuss how agencies would work together during a coordinated response.

We’re proud of our Police and Fire departments for continuing to train, prepare and build the partnerships that help keep Lumberton safe.

The work our first responders do before an emergency may not always be visible, but it matters when every second counts.

School is back in session!

Today marked the first day of school for Public Schools of Robeson County, joining other students across our community who have already started the new school year.

As everyone settles back into the school-year routine, please give yourself a little extra time on the road. Slow down in school zones, watch for students walking or biking, be prepared for school buses making frequent stops, and remember that the new traffic pattern is now in place.

To our students, teachers, staff and families, we wish you a safe, successful and rewarding school year.

And for everyone navigating school traffic again, a little patience goes a long way while we all adjust to the routine.

ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Recent reports concerning PFAS in Robeson County and the Lumber River may raise questions for City of Lumberton water customers.

The City of Lumberton operates its own public water system, separate from the Robeson County water system and the Rocco Water Treatment Plant referenced in recent reports. Water-quality results reported for those systems should not be confused with results for the City of Lumberton's water system.

City drinking water comes from the Lumber River and deep wells located near the river. The City routinely monitors drinking water for more than 150 contaminants, and PFAS compounds were included in testing conducted during 2025.

The City's 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report includes results from three rounds of PFAS testing. During 2025, or any compliance period ending in 2025, the City of Lumberton received no drinking-water violations.

We believe our customers should have clear information about the water they receive. The full report includes the City's water sources, testing results and additional information about our drinking-water system.

UPDATE | I-95 NORTHBOUND

I-95 Northbound near Exit 17 has reopened to traffic.

Please continue to use caution while traveling through the area.

TRAFFIC ALERT | I-95 NORTHBOUND
I-95 Northbound is currently shut down near Exit 17 in Lumberton due to a motor vehicle accident.
Drivers should avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible. Please use caution and allow extra travel time as emergency personnel work at the scene.
We will share additional information as it becomes available.

Beginning Monday, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is scheduled to begin road improvement work in the Fayetteville Road/Boomerang Drive area.

This is a multi-phase project, and construction will continue as the new school year gets underway. Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns and possible delays in the area.

Please slow down and stay alert when traveling through the work zone. Pay close attention to posted signs, lane shifts and traffic control devices, and be mindful of crews working near the roadway. With school traffic soon returning as well, allowing additional travel time and avoiding distractions behind the wheel will be especially important.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and, most importantly, ask that you help keep motorists, students and workers safe.

Power Outage Update

Power has been restored to all customers affected by this morning's outage from Mayfair to Lackey Street.

The outage was caused by damage to a utility pole. City electric crews responded as quickly as possible to safely restore service.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while repairs were being made. Thank you to our electric crews for their work restoring power safely and efficiently.
