Many people know SCAP through one of our programs, but did you know we're part of a nationwide Community Action network dedicated to fighting poverty and empowering families?

Through programs like Head Start, Housing Choice Vouchers, CSBG, and family support services, we help individuals and families move toward greater stability and opportunity.

Together, we're building stronger communities across southeastern North Carolina.

Today, we honor and celebrate Darnerker M. Ford as she retires after 35 years of dedicated service to our agency and the Head Start program.

Darnerker began her journey with our organization in 1989 at the Marietta Head Start Center as a Driver/Custodian. She worked tirelessly while continuing her education and advanced through multiple roles, including Teacher Assistant, Lead Teacher, Assistant Center Manager, and Center Manager.

Her impact reaches far beyond the classroom and center walls as she has inspired colleagues, supported families, and helped shape the lives of countless children throughout her remarkable career.

Congratulations, Darnerker, on 35 incredible years of service. Thank you for your dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment. You will be missed tremendously, and your legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.

Enjoy your well-deserved retirement! ❤️

SCAP was proud to attend the North Carolina Community Action Association Conference in Wilmington, NC, joining community action leaders from across the state for learning, connection, and collaboration.

Members of our CSBG team attended with Dr. Ericka J. Whitaker, CEO; Dr. Rangel Moore, CSBG Director; Board Members Carolyn Cromartie and Doris Joseph; and Dr. Kenston J. Griffin, President/CEO of Dream Builders Communication, Inc. and conference keynote speaker.

The conference provided a meaningful opportunity to continue strengthening the work we do to support individuals, families, and communities across our service area.

We are grateful for our team’s continued commitment to service and community impact.
