Another photo sent to us by Sharon Welton of the old pier, most likely from the mid 1920s. The pier was built in the early '20s where the current pier is today. Weekend big band shows averaged around 700 in attendance hitting a record of 4,000 at one show. High water took out the boardwalk in 1944 and ice driven by a fierce January 1st storm in 1948 completely destroyed the rest of the pier. Pieces of the metal framework are reportedly still out there collecting lures from unsuspecting anglers fishing from the current pier.
