🦌 Hunter-Landowner Meeting – July 29, 2026 🦌

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office encourages hunters, landowners, and community members to attend the upcoming Lunenburg County Hunter-Landowner Meeting hosted by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.

This meeting is designed to bring together hunters, private landowners, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders to discuss local concerns, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and explore solutions that benefit everyone in our community. Discussion will also include the potential establishment of a local Hunter-Landowner Committee in Lunenburg County.

Part-Time Deputy Sheriff / Security Screener

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Deputy Sheriff / Security Screener to assist with courthouse and courtroom security operations.
Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing security and maintaining order within the courthouse and courtroom environment. Duties include screening visitors entering the courthouse, monitoring security equipment, assisting court personnel, and maintaining a professional law enforcement presence during court proceedings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide courtroom and courthouse security during court sessions and related proceedings
• Screen visitors entering the courthouse using metal detectors, x-ray equipment, and established security procedures
• Monitor courthouse entrances, hallways, and public access areas
• Maintain order and respond appropriately to disturbances or security concerns
• Es**rt inmates and assist with prisoner security when required
• Assist judges, clerks, attorneys, and court personnel as needed
• Prepare reports and documentation related to incidents or security activities
• Ensure compliance with courthouse security policies and procedures
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Virginia Law Enforcement Officer preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform security-related duties
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Successful completion of background investigation

Work Schedule
• Part-time position
• Primarily weekday daytime hours based on court schedules
• Flexible schedule as determined by departmental needs

Compensation
• Hourly rate based on qualifications and experience

They remain calm under pressure, provide life-saving instructions, and ensure our deputies, fire, and EMS personnel have the information they need to respond quickly and safely. Their professionalism, compassion, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office was proud to attend the Central High School Career Fair on Friday, April 10, 2026. It was a great opportunity to meet students, talk about careers in law enforcement, and share information about the many ways we serve and protect our community.

We always appreciate the chance to connect with young people and encourage those who may be interested in a future of public service.

Special statement from Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr.:

“It was an honor for our office to be part of the career fair at Central High School. Investing in our youth and showing them the opportunities available in law enforcement and public service is very important to us. We are grateful for the opportunity to speak with the students and hope we inspired some of them to consider a career serving their community.”

PRESS RELEASE

On February 8, 2026, at approximately 2:43 p.m., the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Kenbridge Police Department, and the Virginia State Police responded to Kenbridge Station 7 after receiving a report that an individual with a gunshot wound had arrived at the location.

Preliminary information indicates the individual was shot at a residence and then drove to Kenbridge Station 7. The individual received medical assistance and was transported by MedFlight to a hospital for further treatment.

The suspect in this incident is Charles Aaron Stokes. He is driving a 2025 black Toyota Camry Virginia license number TGB-5260.

This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident or knows the whereabouts of Charles Aaron Stokes is asked to contact the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office at 434-696-4452. If you have an emergency or believe you see someone connected to this incident, dial 911.

Additional information will be released as appropriate.

Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office Announces Arrest and Charges in Domestic-Related Arson Case

The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic-related incident that occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2025, involving a residential fire and multiple reported acts of violence.

Deputies responded to the scene at 1856 hours after receiving reports of a structure fire and an ongoing domestic dispute. As the investigation progressed, evidence was developed indicating the fire was intentionally set and that additional serious offenses occurred during the incident.

As a result of the investigation, DeZachire Radell Goode, 40, was taken into custody and charged with the following violations of the Code of Virginia:
• § 18.2-77 — Arson
• § 18.2-51.2 — Aggravated Malicious Wounding
• § 18.2-51.6 — Strangulation
• § 18.2-144 (x2) — Killing a Dog
• § 18.2-47 (x2) — Kidnapping
• § 18.2-164 (x2) — Denying Access to 911

“This was a serious and disturbing incident,” Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr. said. “Our office is committed to protecting victims, thoroughly investigating violent crimes, and pursuing accountability through the judicial process.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
