The Luray Police Department would like to announce the upcoming retirement of Chief C.S. “Bow” Cook, effective July 1, 2026, after 30 years of dedicated service to the Town of Luray and the citizens of Page County.

Throughout his career, Chief Cook has demonstrated steadfast commitment to his many roles in public service and the safety and well-being of those he served. His career started with the Stanley Police Department in 1996 where he served 4 years, at which point he joined the Page County Sheriff’s Office in 2000. In 2003, he attended the Virginia Forensic Science Academy and was promoted Captain of Investigations overseeing the narcotics division and general investigations. In 2015, Chief Cook transferred to the Luray Police Department as an Investigator, and in 2016 was offered the position as the Chief of Police. Those are just a few highlights of his many accomplishments during his career.

Throughout all this time, he has worked alongside countless law enforcement officers, first responders, community leaders, organizations, business owners, and residents, helping to strengthen the bonds that have created an invaluable working relationship between the citizens of Luray and those who serve and protect.

Bow's leadership and professionalism over his 10 years as Chief will leave an impact on the Luray Police Department and the community that will be remembered for years to come.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Cook on this well-earned retirement and thanking him for his 30 incredible years of faithful service, to our department, the Town of Luray, and Page County as a whole.

We wish him and his family all the best as he begins this new chapter.

🚨 Traffic Alert – Road Closure 🚨

East Main Street and Wallace Avenue are currently blocked due to a broken down train. The crossings will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Please plan ahead and use alternate routes while crews work to resolve the issue. We will provide updates as they become available.

☀️🐾 Hot weather is here, and our pets need a little extra care to stay safe.

As temperatures rise, please remember to provide your animals with plenty of fresh water, adequate shade, and a cool place to rest. Never leave pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes, and try to limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.

Our pets depend on us to protect them from the dangers of extreme heat. A few simple precautions can prevent heat-related illnesses and save lives.

If you see an animal in distress due to the heat, please contact the Page County Sheriff's Office at 540-743-6571. This number can also be used for non-emergency after hours number.

Stay safe, stay cool, and help keep our four-legged friends healthy this summer. 🐶🐱🐴

The Luray Police Department is aware of the social media posts regarding a suspicious male. Luray officers and Page County Sheriff's Office did respond to a call of a suspicious male in the Town of Luray. Officers identified the male and at the time of contact there was no evidence that any crime had been committed. We have no reason to believe at this time that the individual is a threat or has made any threats to the public. We are aware there are social media posts and apps that are not accurate or relaying misleading information.
