As many of you know, on February 9th 2025, I lost my wife in a terrible car accident. I was at the scene a few minutes after and it was the hardest thing I've ever done. I had to step back and let the first responders act.
For those that don't know our story, I'll give a little insight. I met my wife Amber, in high-school. When we started dating I knew she was "the one". When I popped the question she shouted yes!
Once I decided to follow my dream of being in law enforcement, nobody was a bigger cheerleader. When I was unsure on how to juggle everything on my plate, she was the calm spirit who helped navigate the dark.
We were blessed to have 3 wonderful children, and 5 wonderful grandchildren. In September or October of this year we will have 2 more!
She was an amazing person. Once we had our first grandchild she asked if she could be a stay at home "Grammy". The answer was an overwhelming yes, whatever you want love.
And that she did. She would come by the office frequently with one or all in tow. Her smile would light up everything it touched.
I've heard others say we had a true love story. Well in 28 years of marriage, looking back on everything, I believe we did.
I have heard a lot of how are you holding up, and to be honest, I don't know. I feel as though I'm just adrift on the open sea with no course to sail. But in my heart and through my faith, I will find my way. Her light will guide me day by day.
I have read every message, card, text, and other communication that has been sent. I apologize if I haven't replied, it's just been too busy so far.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to, Choctaw Police Department, Nicoma Park Police Department, Spencer Police Department Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Wellston Police, Luther Fire Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Harrah Police Department, Lincoln County Emergency Management Jones Police Department Lincoln County Sheriff's Office - Oklahoma
I'm sure I forgot to tag some others, please forgive me as I'm still in a fog.
Also to all the community members, and citizens from all over the world who have said a prayer, offered a kind word, or donated in any way, thank you. It means more to me than I can ever put into words.
I will be absent from the position for a bit, while I finalize things and start the healing process.
If you want to do one thing in her honor, here would be her request....smile more, love stronger, and show a little grace and never take a second for granted.
I love you all,
Sincerely
Chief Johnny Leafty
