Crenshaw County Emergency 911 Center is hiring a full-time Public Safety dispatcher.

This position plays a vital role in answering emergency calls and dispatching law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. No experience is required, and paid training is provided.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license, pass a criminal background check, and be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Unfortunately, the work on Bodiford Pool Road was not completed today. The closed section between Montgomery Highway (Highway 331) and Farrior Road will remain closed throughout tonight and Tuesday, September 1.

Please continue to use an alternate route and allow additional travel time. We will provide another update once the roadway has reopened.

If your trash is normally collected on Monday, please have it placed by the road before your regular collection time.

Thursday: Mostly sunny to start, followed by a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1:00 p.m. High near 93 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase across Crenshaw County this afternoon, with the greatest coverage between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Storms may produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and periods of heavy rainfall. Please use caution if traveling and be prepared to move indoors when storms approach.

As we all know, Mother Nature can be unpredictable. Some areas may receive a strong storm or heavy rain, while others may receive very little, or nothing at all.

We will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates as needed.

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we have shared information about preparing for emergencies, responding as a community and reducing future risks.

Today’s focus is disaster recovery.

DISASTER RECOVERY: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER AN EMERGENCY?

Recovery begins after the immediate danger has passed, but returning a community to normal can take days, months or even longer.

Following a disaster, Crenshaw County EMA may assist by:

• Coordinating preliminary damage assessments with local and state partners.

• Identifying unmet needs throughout the county.

• Sharing verified information with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.

• Helping request resources and outside assistance when local capabilities are exceeded.

• Coordinating with volunteer and nonprofit organizations.

• Providing citizens with accurate information about available assistance and recovery resources.

Citizens also play an important role in the recovery process. After an emergency:

• Wait for official instructions before entering damaged or restricted areas.

• Stay away from downed power lines, floodwater and unstable structures.

• When it is safe, photograph or record damage before beginning cleanup or temporary repairs.

• Contact your insurance company as soon as possible and keep copies of photographs, documents and receipts.

• Report damage through the official process announced by local authorities. Damage reports help officials understand the extent of the impact and determine what assistance may be needed.

• Be cautious of fraudulent contractors, donation requests and individuals promising immediate government assistance.

• Check on family members and neighbors when it is safe to do so, especially older adults and those with medical or mobility needs.

Recovery is more than repairing buildings. It is also about restoring essential services, reopening roads and businesses, supporting affected families and helping the entire community move forward.

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Crenshaw County until 7:00 p.m. today.

Thunderstorms may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and hail. Residents should remain alert throughout the afternoon and evening and be prepared to move indoors if a warning is issued.

Make sure you have more than one way to receive weather warnings, and avoid relying solely on outdoor warning sirens.
