The Alabama Association of Conservation Districts is pleased to announce the selection of Grace Ellis as Assistant Executive Director. This decision reflects AACD’s continued commitment to strengthening organizational capacity, enhancing statewide support for our districts, and ensuring a smooth leadership transition in the years ahead.

Mrs. Ellis brings extensive experience in agriculture, conservation, and statewide association leadership.
Grace is no stranger to the conservation family as she has served as a district supervisor in Autauga County for the past 9 and a half years and as the Area IV President the last two years. She has most recently served as executive director of the Alabama Agribusiness Council.

Grace’s leadership, professionalism, and deep understanding of Alabama’s agricultural and conservation landscape will be valuable assets to AACD.

ALSWCC welcomes new USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief, Colton Buckley

To help poultry growers secure new mortality handling methods, the US Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) opened up a special source of funding under their Environmental Quality Incentives Program. This funding is available to growers who only had mortality freezers as their handling method. The deadline to sign up for this special offering is May 29, 2026. Interested growers should visit their local district conservation office to fill out an application.

We’re excited to highlight continued progress on our Pollinator Project, made possible through multiple rounds of funding and strong partnerships 🌼🐝

The first round of funding for this project was provided by the Sand County Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), helping lay the groundwork for establishing vital pollinator habitats in our area.

Building on that success, a second round of funding was awarded through a grant from the Soil and Water Conservation Committee, allowing the project to expand and continue making a lasting impact.

Pollinator habitats play a critical role in supporting agriculture, wildlife, and overall ecosystem health. By investing in projects like this, we are helping protect the species that keep our environment thriving while also promoting conservation practices across Crenshaw County.

A special thank you to Lomax and Kathryn Tomlin for allowing us to use their property as a hands-on learning space for students. Opportunities like this make a lasting difference and bring conservation education to life in a meaningful way.

We’re grateful for the support that makes projects like this possible and look forward to seeing the continued benefits for our land, producers, and community.

We’re proud to share that a $29,000 grant from the Alabama Forestry Foundation has been awarded to support the development of a green space at Luverne High School 🌳

This project represents an investment in both education and conservation, providing students with a dedicated outdoor space where they can learn, gather, and connect with the natural environment. The green space will serve as a hands-on extension of the classroom, encouraging environmental awareness, stewardship, and a deeper appreciation for the resources that sustain our community.

Initiatives like this not only enhance the school environment, but also help shape the next generation’s understanding of conservation and responsible land use—values that are especially important here in Crenshaw County.

Board members Ashley Catrett, Lomax Walker, and Raymond McGough were present in support of this project, recognizing the lasting impact it will have on students, educators, and the community as a whole.

We’re excited to see this vision come to life and the opportunities it will create for years to come.
