Have you ever tried finding an address you’ve never been to before in High Prairie on a sunny day?

Sometimes the driveway you need is tucked deep in the woods, the grass is overgrown around the driveway, the house numbers are hard to see, or there are several roads and driveways close together.

Now imagine trying to find that same address during an emergency at night in smoke, snow, or rain.

That’s where blue address signs help.

A clearly posted blue number sign makes it easier for first responders to find you fast when every second matters.

High Prairie Fire provides blue number signs for $25 each.

We had a successful drill last night with our automatic aid partner Lyle Fire & Rescue Dist. #4 and nearly our entire High Prairie Fire crew. We spent the evening doing our annual wildland fire refresher training (formally known as RT-130) that keeps us ready for fire season here at home.

We started with pizza and good conversation (thank you to one of our volunteers and Beneventi’s Pizza for providing it!), then spent 2 hours reviewing this year’s weather predictions, fire behavior, fire line safety, and communications. RT-130 is something almost all of our nation’s Wildland firefighters take every year to stay sharp, reduce risk, and make sure we’re ready to respond when conditions get tough.

Training together builds the kind of teamwork you can count on—neighbors showing up for each other, ready when our community needs us.

This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for our community. Your tax support, personal donations, and the grants we’ve been awarded help keep our fire district ready to respond.

We’re also deeply grateful for our volunteers and staff who give so much of themselves all year long.

Have a safe, happy Thanksgiving with your family and friends!
