After tallying the incredible number of votes we received, it became clear that we had a winner: 31% of all votes were for The Vandalorian!

We will now have to figure out what sort of Mandalorian + Library decals we can get. Star Wars +CSLD collab anybody?

Oh yeah, did we mention today is the first day of summer reading? Stop by the library to register. We have challenges for all ages. Check it out: https://centralskagitlibrary.org/summer-reading/

Skagit County Commissioners Adopt Moratorium on New Data Centers

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners has adopted a moratorium on new data centers in Skagit County.

“We’ve worked for generations as a community to protect the Skagit Valley for farming, fisheries and the natural environment,” said Skagit County Board of Commissioners Chair Ron Wesen. “Data centers have significant impacts, and it is important that we approach this issue carefully and thoughtfully.”

For the purposes of the moratorium, data centers are defined as facilities meant to house computers and related equipment that are larger than 2,000 square feet or have a total anticipated load of two megawatts or greater.

“The Skagit Valley is subject to large floods, volcanic lahar, and other major natural risk, and summertime water limitations mean that Skagit farmers already have a hard time getting the water they need,” said Skagit County Commissioner Peter Browning. “As we contemplate the possibility of data centers in our community, we have a duty to recognize and respond to the limitations that nature imposes.”

The moratorium only applies to rural Skagit County, outside incorporated cities and towns. The moratorium directs Skagit County Planning and Development Services to develop new code regulating the siting of data centers through an open and public process.

“This is major issue for our community, and we look forward to hearing from stakeholders over the coming months,” said Skagit County Commissioner Joe Burns. “There is only one Skagit Valley, and we have an obligation to get this right.”

Consistent with RCW 36.70A.390, the Board will hold a hearing to accept public comment and testimony on the moratorium at 10:30 a.m. on July 14, 2026. Written comment will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on July 14, 2026. For further information please contact Senior Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Will Honea at [email protected].
