Almost home…. Well at least almost to my car to drive home. Three fantastic days with other adoption providers, experts in their fields, and experts in their lived experiences through adoption. I’m simultaneously EXHAUSTED and ENERGIZED, thinking of ways we can implement new learning, improved practices and supports. Thanks to NCFA for another amazing conference, as well as all the other professionals and organizations committed to improving adoption. And thanks to the amazing staff at Adoption Life who held things together during kind of a wild week!

NCFA DAY 2! Adult adoptees teaching us about their experiences growing up adopted- good and bad, how to better support adoptive parents in the thick of hard times, helping parents utilize a “brain first lens,” and supporting everybody in adoption through a more intentional and thoughtful approach to post adoption contact agreements. All on top of connecting with other providers, learning and sharing how we can do our best work. Whew, we are tired but happy!

Day 1 of NCFA’s National Adoption Conference in the books. It was a great day of learning, connecting, and advocating for the ADOPT Act on Capitol Hill. This federal legislation would create important safeguards in adoption and support individual states in enforcing their own adoption laws. -act

We know this can be a complicated day, often defined by what many women feel they are not, rather than what they truly are to so many who love them. Did you know the day before traditional Mother’s Day is considered Birth Mother’s Day? A special day to recognize the unique space occupied by mothers who have placed a child for adoption. The title Birth Mother may come with a unique combination of pride and grief, and today we give these mothers the special recognition they deserve.
