Elizabeth's Early Learning Center

Elizabeth's Early Learning Center A nurturing community where every child can discover, learn, and shine.
Mrs. Elizabeth Forsyth was a lifelong Lynchburg resident and active community builder. The opening of Elizabeth's Early Learning Center (EELC) in 1997 was the realization of a dream she had to open a child care center where children from all corners of our community and from all different backgrounds would come together in a loving and caring environment to grow and develop into healthy and productive citizens. She purchased a parking lot and shell building and transformed them into one of the finest child care facilities in Virginia. To ensure diversity, EELC's tuition plan accomodates families of varying financial circumstances. Through Mrs. Forsyth's generosity, an endowment has been established to help support scholarship programs. Scholarship programs have also benefited from the support of others in the community. EELC accepts DSS vouchers at every age level.

Obituary for Stella Thomas Tanner at Robinson Funeral Home

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our dear Stella. Stella was the friend and assistant of Elizabeth Forsyth and played an integral role in the establishment of Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center. She served as the first president of the Board of Directors and continued to serve on the Board until her death. It was important to her, from its inception, that Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center be an inclusive community that nurtured and educated young children from diverse backgrounds. The Stella Tanner Scholarship Fund was established in her honor to provide tuition support for families. She was a loyal advocate and supporter of teachers. She spoiled us with homemade cookies, cupcakes, birthday cards and flowers. She visited the school often and could be identified pulling into the parking lot by the license plate on her car which read, “EELC1.” Life at Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center will never be quite the same without Stella but we pledge to carry on her mission of welcoming, loving, nurturing, and educating the children in our community.

Stella Thomas Tanner of Concord, Virginia, died on Sunday, August 9, 2020. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Calvin Tanner, Sr. Stella was born in Appomattox County, the daughter of the late Lyle B. Thomas and Helen Drinkard Thomas. Her beloved uncle, Frank M. Thomas also predeceased her. Sh...

In Bett's Station we have started learning about one another. This week we focused on our friend Wyatt! We enjoyed painting with his favorite colors. Everyone had a blast playing with Wyatt's favorite food; spaghetti! On Wednesday we soaked up some sunshine playing in the sprinkler. Wyatt's favorite snack is popsicles, so we made and enjoyed some orange dreamsicle popsicles for snack!
