Jubilee Family Development Center Gardens Updates:
Master Gardener volunteers are preparing the garden and crops for a great summer camp session which will begin gardening on June 16. On that day Master Gardeners will meet with the children for a brief introduction to seeds, have each child plant several seeds in a small container, visit the garden, and learn what is growing. The following week’s topic will be about good and bad bugs. Whats a fun time!

Additionally Master Gardeners have harvested more than 14 beautiful 9heads of lettuce in the 94-degree weather as well as in the cool, wet weather. With more lettuce to go, we are hoping to hold some for summer campers. This will be a test of the lettuce abilities to stay sweet and not bolt.

A new event, β€œTasting Tuesdays,” is being planned by the Jubilee staff and will involve fresh produce from our garden as well as from other sources. This is one of the beginning steps of a two-year program on improved nutrition.

Meanwhile, baby tomatoes, are showing up on the vines, small peppers are growing, the corn is more than knee high, and potatoes are higher still.

The gardens are coming along and will be ready for the campers.
