Mrs. Awalt's 2nd grade class combined a good behavior celebration with a reading connection. They recently filled their "compliment star jar" and celebrated with a SNACK MIX PARTY.
Students read a story this week that included the main character enjoying a snack mix, so creating their own just made this celebration even sweeter.

Dear School Community,
Last night, a safety concern was reported and promptly addressed by the Sheriff's office. I want to assure you that learning continues in a safe environment across our school system. We are grateful to those who brought this matter to the attention of our administrators and the Sheriff's office. Your commitment to our shared responsibility for school safety is deeply appreciated. Mrs. Barnett’s 5th graders took on the ā€œImpossible Paper Challengeā€! šŸ“„

The challenge was to figure out how to fit your entire body through a single sheet of paper. The catch? They could only cut the paper. No tape, no glue, no staples, and no tying.

We used this challenge to practice the engineering design process. The kids had to ask, imagine, plan, create, test, reflect, and improve. There were lots of attempts that didn’t work, but they kept going.

At first, no one believed we could actually do it. But eventually, we figured out how to fit our bodies through a single Post-it note! 🤯

The kids were SO engaged throughout this challenge. They were constantly trying new ideas, helping each other, and getting excited when they finally found something that worked.

It was so much fun watching them problem-solve and realize that something that seemed impossible at first might not be impossible after all! ā¤ļø

Dear Moore County Community,

We are writing to inform you of a potential safety concern that came to our attention this afternoon involving Moore County High School. The Moore County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating the matter this evening. Out of an abundance of caution, any student(s) involved in making threatening statements will not be permitted on campus until the investigation is complete and we have determined it is safe to do so.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our unwavering priority. We recognize this may ultimately prove to be a rumor or misunderstanding; however, we are fully cooperating with law enforcement to thoroughly investigate and ensure our school remains a secure learning environment for everyone.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

šŸ”Ž Mystery Bag Observations!

Mrs. Barnett’s 5th grade scientists put their observation skills to the test with a Mystery Bag investigation! Without looking inside, students made careful observations, recorded evidence, looked for patterns, and used what they discovered to make predictions and explain their thinking.

It was fun to see them work through the clues and think like scientists! šŸ§ŖšŸ”

ESP is back & off to a GREAT start!
We’re kicking off the school year with a GREAT group of students and lots of fun already!

We still have spots available and would love to add a few more friends to our ESP crew!

Registration packets can be picked up in the front office, or you can call the school and ask to have one sent home with your child.

More friends = more fun!

Cause & Effect in Action! šŸ“ššŸ”—

Our 4th graders put their cause-and-effect skills to work today! Each group was given a task card and worked collaboratively to determine what could happen next in a story and how each event connected through cause and effect.

Students had to think critically, communicate their ideas, and work together to build a complete cause-and-effect story chain. What a fun, hands-on way to strengthen reading skills while practicing teamwork!

Sometimes learning gets a little wild in Pre-K!

Today we practiced multisensory phonics, using visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and mnemonic cues to help those letter sounds stick!

For the letter S, we didn’t just say the sound. We turned into snakes! A little face paint gave us a visual connection, movement helped bring it to life, and of course we practiced:

ā€œS says sssssssss… like a snake!ā€ šŸ

When kiddos can see it, hear it, say it, and act it out, learning becomes an experience instead of just another lesson.

And judging by these little snakes, I’d say the letter S has officially slithered its way into our brains.
