🌳 Want to get involved in restoring native habitats and protecting our parks from invasive species with ReviveLYH? Contact [email protected] !

Spring 2024:
-The City hired a contractor to mulch invasive growth down to the ground, carefully protecting native trees. The hillside was stabilized with fescue and ryegrass seed to reduce erosion.

Fall 2024:
-More than 20 native trees were planted (including oaks and redbuds), each caged to protect from deer and beaver.

Spring 2025:
-Native grasses and wildflowers were added to help the site transition into a thriving, native-dominated habitat.

Fall 2025:
-A total of 76 volunteers contributed 211 hours toward invasive removal and habitat restoration efforts.
The vegetation mapping project reached 75% completion, establishing a foundation for coordinated restoration planning. Central Virginia Master Naturalists and Moore & Giles volunteers cleared over half an acre of autumn olive, allowing sunlight to reach the forest floor and encouraging native plants to return.
Five trained volunteers began herbicide application and maintenance work to manage invasive regrowth and support long-term restoration.

We have upgraded the lighting at Peaks View Park!

Now in place is a new energy-efficient LED system that will improve visibility for players, lower energy consumption, and reduce light spill into nearby neighborhoods.

This project improved lighting on multiple fields and courts, with nighttime basketball use set to start next spring after pathway improvements. Additionally, all lights are equipped with remote operation, increasing efficiency and reducing maintenance.

Peaks View Park is open sunrise to sunset, with athletic fields open to 10:00 p.m. when games are scheduled, and tennis courts open until 11:00 p.m.
