It was a pleasure to welcome Congressman John McGuire and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy to Lynchburg Regional Airport yesterday as we celebrated the continued growth of air service and the partnerships that have helped make it possible.

The event brought together federal, state, regional, and local leaders, along with members of the business community, to discuss the importance of transportation, connectivity, workforce mobility, and economic opportunity throughout Lynchburg Region.

Thank you to the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance for coordinating the visit and to Airport Director Cedric Simon and Mayor Larry Taylor for hosting on behalf of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia Government.

Reliable air service is more than a transportation asset—it is an important component of economic competitiveness, business growth, tourism, talent attraction, and regional connectivity. Yesterday's discussions reinforced the value of collaboration in advancing those goals. Fly LYH!

Every visit to Lynchburg has a measurable impact.  From major sporting events to leisure travelers, tourism serves as a vital economic anchor – generating $409.9 million in annual visitor spending.

Tourism doesn’t just support 3,800+ jobs; it helps ease the tax burden for our residents by saving every Virginia household $990 in additional taxes each year.  When we welcome the world to our city, we’re investing in our community’s future.

Economic development is reflected in the companies that choose to invest in the City of Lynchburg every day.

Employers like Centra, Liberty University, Framatome, and Delta Star, Inc. are not just major employers—they are drivers of innovation, productivity, and long-term economic stability.

Our role is to support that foundation while creating the conditions for continued growth across healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and emerging industries.

It’s Delta Star, Inc. —from the air—on the inaugural flight from Chicago to LYH. This is more than a view. It’s a reminder that Lynchburg is connected in ways that matter - for our businesses, our workforce, and our future.

We are more accessible, more competitive, and better positioned for growth. And we’re just getting started.

03/25/2026

A major milestone for the City of Lynchburg and our region.

This moment reflects years of steady work and strong leadership—from our Airport Director, City Manager, and City Council to the Economic Development Authority of the City of Lynchburg—all working together to move Lynchburg forward.

“This moment represents years of intentional work to strengthen Lynchburg’s position in the market. Air service is not just about travel—it’s about access to opportunity, to talent, and to global markets. This is a meaningful step forward for our business community and a clear signal that Lynchburg is competitive, connected, and moving.” FLYLYH.
