Last night at 23:30, Truck 1, Engine 1, Battalion 1 and Rescue 1 were dispatched to the 1200 block of Commerce St for an elevator entrapment with a reported 9 people on board the elevator car. With those notes, Battalion 1 assigned Medic 1 to the call. The elevator car was inaccessible from floors 3-6, and was stuck in between the 3rd and 4th floor. The Paratech Chicago Kit was used as our attachment point on the 7th floor where a rescuer was sent 35 ft down the elevator shaft to gain access and check for injuries within the car. With 9 victims having to get out of the shaft, the Harken Winch was used to haul from the elevator car, to the 7th floor. From dispatch, all 9 victims were out of the elevator in roughly 2 hours. The Tech Team operated on scene for almost 3 hours before returning to Clay Street.
