Archivists can be pretty ingenious when it comes to repurposing things around the library.

Here are some photos which show how Archivist Gwen uses our extra shelf dividers and folders to make weights to flatten the edges of rolled up documents.

Storing maps and blueprints flat helps to preserve them better for the long haul, reducing wear and tear along on the edges.

Last week we shared that we got a lot of great cardboard boxes from Hailey's Appliance.

On Friday, Volunteer Chuck worked some magic with Archivist Gwen. They created structural supports that will snugly preserve loose issues of newspapers in The Jones archives.

Thanks Chuck, and thanks to the folks at Hailey's Appliance for helping us preserve Lynchburg's history for future generations!
