Wow! This week, we unveiled the Lynchburg Public Library Bookmobile to supporters, donors, and partners and the response has been overwhelming. We're so excited to get it on the road next week to meet our community. Now we can break down barriers to ensure every citizen has access to library services, just as the original Friends of the Lynchburg Public Library intended.

The Lynchburg Public Library Bookmobile is here and ready to hit the road! Today we took a moment to celebrate alongside staff, donors, partners, and organizations who made this project a reality. We can’t wait to continue our mission to be a library for all by removing barriers that hinder access to services and resources by bringing the library straight to our city.

Looking for ways to stay cool this summer? ☀️

We’re bringing FREE and PUBLIC family-friendly cooling activities, movies, splash events, treats, water fun, and community programs all summer throughout Lynchburg. There will be foam parties, Icees in the Park, free kayak rentals, and neighborhood water days.

For daily options we have the:
-The Sprayground at Riverside park open from 10AM to 7PM every day.
-Riverfront Park fountains open from DAWN to DUSK every day.

Here's a renovation update! Recently, the RL Price Construction team began on addressing our aging water pipe system. This is a major step in the project that addresses extensive damage and flooding issues in the building that dates back to its days as a Sears-Roebuck. We're thankful for all the hard work going into our library and love seeing the process over the last few months.

Warrior Success Academy is taking over the Downtown Branch from 10:30 to 11:30 this Saturday morning! Are you or a kid in your life interested in learning martial arts or self-defense? A few weeks ago, we teamed up with Dreamwalker Tattoo for a massive bookish-themed tattoo flash day fundraiser in honor of our 60th Anniversary. AND YOU GUYS SHOWED UP. We raised $2,4000 with that money going right back to supporting library programs. Thank you to everyone who turned out and our friends at Dreamwalker.

Big thank you to the Lynchburg Public Library for teaming up with us for their birthday sale. It was awesome to be part of it and see how much we were able to raise together for the library. Together we were able to raise $2,400 for the library. Thank you to all the people who came out and made it a huge success!

It’s pretty cold out there. Cold enough to freeze the book return shut. ❄️🥶

Many of you ask about late fees and picking up holds when we’re closed for weather. Since Phil says there’s six more weeks of winter, here’s a few reminders and tips:

- Lynchburg is a fine-free library. That means we do not charge overdue fees for late items unless they’re speciality items like our nature backpacks or telescope or new books with a two week check-out limit.

- If you can’t pick up your hold due to weather closures, we make sure to extend your pick-up window so you don’t lose your spot.

- During the renovation transition, accounts with $20 or less in fees will still be able to check out book — raising the threshold from $5. We get it. Change takes some adjustment and we’re still learning too!

We’re open at the Miller Center and the Downtown Branch from 10 am to 6 pm! Plus we have plenty of programs coming up. Bundle up and stop by!
