North Whatcom Fire and Rescue provides service to 182 square miles of residential, recreational, industrial and agricultural land in Whatcom County. In the summer months the population of 44, 040 grows by 10-12,000 as visitors flock to the Semiahmoo and Birch Bay resort communities. The northern end of the district runs East from Boundary Bay and the City of Blaine in the for 36 miles along the Ca

NWFR is a combination fire department, relying on both career and volunteer firefighters to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. Our career firefighters are all medically trained to the level of EMT-Basic. NWFR staffs sixty full paid personnel of which forty-nine are full paid sworn combat personnel, six support personnel, and seventy-six part-paid and volunteers. The fire district operates from thirteen fire stations with four full paid engine companies with two of those companies being crossed-staffed to ladder trucks, and one part-paid engine company.

Today we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. On this Memorial Day, our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the fallen.

Our administrative offices are closed today, but as always, our 24-hour stations remain open and ready to serve you.

Thank you to all who have served. We will never forget.

🚒 Did you know? The majority of a firefighter’s job is emergency medical care.

This EMS Week, we’re honoring our EMTs at NWFR and our neighboring EMTs and paramedics who are ready to respond to anything at a moment’s notice. Their dedication behind every call is extraordinary.

Thank you for all that you do. 💙🚑

Drill ground? Nope, this past week we took to the classroom 😄🔥 Some of our firefighters stepped into the classroom for our Officer Preparation Academy and honestly, we love to see it! Bonus to see some current officers join in to hone their skills as well, always learning!

This past week’s focus was on:

✅ Strategy & Tactics
✅ Health & Wellness
✅ Officer Expectations
✅ Coaching, Evals & Discipline
✅ Conflict Resolution
✅ Daily Prioritizing
✅ Budgeting & Program Management
✅ Fire Investigation

Fresh week of instruction and learning starting tomorrow. Keep up the great work!

Yesterday our Station 69 crew had the privilege to work with students from the NCTA Fire Science Program,Meridian Campus at Meridian High School teaching forcible entry skills and techniques.

This amazing program serves students from all of the School Districts in Whatcom County working to educate and prepare students for a potential career in the fire service.

It was an amazing day passing on knowledge to the next generation of firefighters🔥
