North Whatcom Fire and Rescue provides service to 182 square miles of residential, recreational, industrial and agricultural land in Whatcom County. In the summer months the population of 44, 040 grows by 10-12,000 as visitors flock to the Semiahmoo and Birch Bay resort communities. The northern end of the district runs East from Boundary Bay and the City of Blaine in the for 36 miles along the Ca

NWFR is a combination fire department, relying on both career and volunteer firefighters to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. Our career firefighters are all medically trained to the level of EMT-Basic. NWFR staffs sixty full paid personnel of which forty-nine are full paid sworn combat personnel, six support personnel, and seventy-six part-paid and volunteers. The fire district operates from thirteen fire stations with four full paid engine companies with two of those companies being crossed-staffed to ladder trucks, and one part-paid engine company.

Our Station 63 crew was up and at it bright and early this morning, enjoying the sunshine and getting some training reps in. They were getting after it while most people were still sipping their Sunday morning coffee ☀️

As schools around the county are all starting up again for the 2026-2027 year, buses will be running 🚌

Thank you Lynden Schools for the great reminder on when you need to stop and when you can proceed when school busses are running their route!

School buses will again join community roads. A few reminders:
• Stop when traveling the same direction as the bus anytime the bus has turned on red flashing lights or extended the stop arm.
• Stop when traveling the opposite direction as the bus when on a two-lane road anytime the bus has turned on red flashing lights or extended the stop arm.
• If a road is divided by a median, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop.
• Always be aware of students crossing the road near a stopped school bus.
