Soldier Spotlight
SPC Cody Surprise
Cody hails from Burlington, Vermont. Trained as an Infantryman (11B), Cody drills with Charlie Troop, 1st Squadron, 172nd Cavalry Regiment (Mountain), 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) in Lyndonville, Vermont.
He has been in the Vermont Army National Guard since 2018, and just this past January, Cody graduated from the Army Pathfinder School which is one of the most mentally demanding courses the Army has to offer.
Cody is currently supporting operations at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where his role is working with incoming patients through the registration process, as well as escorting them through the center.
"I'm happy to be contributing to this effort and doing my small part to help Vermont. From a national perspective, I'm ready to deploy, which gives me a great sense of pride. However, the mission of helping my community seems more relevant during these challenging times".
On the first day of battle at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, General John Sedgwick said, "Put the Vermonters ahead and keep the column well closed up."
Even back then, the Vermonters had a reputation for being well disciplined and fierce fighters.
157 years later, Vermonters like Cody continue to lead from the front. We will see an end to this battle - and we will be victorious.
